LSB Round 15: Brumas beat Caribbean Coast by three after a very close game

Seventh-ranked Caribbean Coast (5-8) used its home court advantage to challenge fourth ranked Brumas (10-5) in Managua on Friday. The visitors from Jinotega managed to secure only three-point victory 68-65. However their fans expected easier game. It was a good game for Dominican center Jose Familia (201-1998) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 13 rebounds. The former international Dalton Cacho (200-1993) contributed with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Puerto Rican forward Christian Negron (201-1998, college: GVSU) answered with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 16 rebounds for Caribbean Coast. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Brumas have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They moved-up to third place. Caribbean Coast at the other side keeps the seventh position with eight games lost.
An interesting game for Jaguares (12-3) which hosted in Managua 3rd placed UNI Basket (9-5). Second ranked Jaguares managed to get a 9-point victory 104-95. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of UNI Basket. It was a great evening for American guard Devin Harris (195-1995, college: Jacksonville) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists. Leon Hampton helped adding 17 points and 13 rebounds. The best for the losing side was the former international guard Vansdell Thomas (185-1986) with 26 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Jaguares maintains second place with 12-3 record having just two points less than leader Real Esteli. UNI Basket at the other side dropped to the fourth position with five games lost.
An interesting game for Real Esteli (14-1) which hosted in Esteli second-best Jaguares (12-3). First ranked Real Esteli had an easy win 80-63. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Jaguares. It was an exceptional evening for Jensen Campbell who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds. Romario Ponce came up with 16 points and 5 assists for Jaguares in the defeat. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Real Esteli maintains first place with 14-1 record. Loser Jaguares keep the second position with three games lost.

In the last two games of round 15 Rivas were beaten by Leon on the road 89-71. Bottom-ranked Occidentales lost to Leones MGA on its own court 65-78.
The most impressive performance of 15th round was 20 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 blocks by Deikel Sanchez of Occidentales.



Jaguares - UNI Basket 104-95

An interesting game for Jaguares (12-3) which hosted in Managua 3rd placed UNI Basket (9-5). Second ranked Jaguares managed to get a 9-point victory 104-95. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of UNI Basket. Jaguares dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to UNI Basket's 36. They outrebounded UNI Basket 47-35 including 34 on the offensive glass. Jaguares players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. It was a great evening for American guard Devin Harris (195-1995, college: Jacksonville) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists. His fellow American import center Leon Hampton (213-1995, college: Stillman) helped adding 17 points and 13 rebounds. Hampton is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. The best for the losing side was the former international guard Vansdell Thomas (185-1986) with 26 points and 5 rebounds and Puerto Rican point guard Luis Rivera (180-1998) scored 24 points. Five Jaguares and four UNI Basket players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Jaguares maintains second place with 12-3 record having just two points less than leader Real Esteli. UNI Basket at the other side dropped to the fourth position with five games lost.

No shocking result in a game when seventh ranked Leon (6-8) beat at home 9th ranked Rivas (2-11) 89-71 on Thursday. It was an exceptional evening for American-Panamanian Adalberto Rojas (200-1986) who led the winners and scored 26 points and 8 rebounds. American power forward Zacarry Douglas (203-1995, college: NCCU) accounted for 14 points and 13 rebounds for the winning side. Cuban Yosniel Morales (196-1987) came up with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 14 rebounds and American forward Telvin Gabriel (198-1994, college: Lander) added 14 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Rivas in the defeat. Five Leon and four Rivas players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Leon moved-up to sixth place. Loser Rivas keep the ninth position with 11 games lost.

Very expected game when 10th ranked Occidentales (2-13) lost to fifth ranked Leones MGA (8-7) in Chinandega 65-78 on Friday. Leones MGA outrebounded Occidentales 43-27 including 29 on the offensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for Puerto Rican point guard Luis Gonzalez (183-1997, college: PR-Bayamon) who led the winners and scored 22 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. American forward Josmel Martinez (198, college: Broward CC) accounted for 17 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side. Leones MGA's coach used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Guard Deikel Sanchez came up with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 blocks (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and Puerto Rican guard Roberto Nieves (194-1982, college: Valpo) added 14 points respectively for Occidentales in the defeat. Four Occidentales players scored in double figures. Leones MGA maintains fifth place with 8-7 record. Occidentales lost their fifth game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with 13 games lost.
