LSB Round 28: Derby game ends with Caribbean Coast's defeat of Jaguares

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Managua: Caribbean Coast (#4) and Jaguares (#3). Jaguares were defeated at home 79-88 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Caribbean Coast made 22-of-28 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Puerto Rican guard Luis Lopez (182-1998, college: PR-Mayaguez) who helped to win the game recording 33 points (!!!), 8 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals (made all of his eleven free throws !!!). Jorge Gonzalez contributed with 24 points and 5 assists for the winners. American guard Byron Wesley (196-1992, college: Gonzaga) replied with 36 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 4 assists for Jaguares. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Caribbean Coast (13-9) have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position. Jaguares lost third consecutive game. They keep the third place with eight games lost. Caribbean Coast are looking forward to face Leon (#7) in the next round. Jaguares will play against the league's leader Real Esteli (#1) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
LSB top team - Real Esteli (24-1) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed tenth ranked Rivas (3-21) 100-81. Worth to mention a quality performance of the former international guard Jared Ruiz (188-1992) who helped to win the game recording 39 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 5 assists and Ismael Cruz who added 22 points, 8 assists and 7 steals during the contest. At the losing side American forward Telvin Gabriel (198-1994, college: Lander) responded with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds. Real Esteli have an impressive 12-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 24-1 record. Rivas lost fourth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 21 lost games. Real Esteli will play against Jaguares (#3) in Managua in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Rivas will play at home against Jaguares (#3) and hope to get back on the winning track.

Indigenas' coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Brumas have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 18-7 record having six points less than leader Real Esteli. Indigenas at the other side keep the eighth place with 19 games lost. Brumas will meet UNI Basket (#6) in the next round. Indigenas will play against the league's leader Real Esteli and hope to secure a win.



Brumas - Indigenas 115-85

The game between second ranked Brumas (18-7) and 8th ranked Indigenas (6-19) in Jinotega on Tuesday ended with biggest points difference. Brumas outscored guests from Matagalpa 115-85. Brumas looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. The winners were led by Cuban center Marvin Cairo (203-1991) who scored that evening 24 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and Dominican Xavier de la Rosa (196-1991) supported him with 25 points and 7 assists. Five Brumas players scored in double figures. Even 22 points by American guard Chris Moten (190-1989, college: LA Pierce JC) did not help to save the game for Indigenas. Guard Marlon Gonzalez added 12 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for lost side. Indigenas' coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Brumas have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 18-7 record having six points less than leader Real Esteli. Indigenas at the other side keep the eighth place with 19 games lost. Brumas will meet UNI Basket (#6) in the next round. Indigenas will play against the league's leader Real Esteli and hope to secure a win.
