Real Esteli - Leon 66-60 The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Leon (2-1) on the court of Real Esteli. Visitors were defeated by Real Esteli 66-60. Real Esteli brought some defensive toughness making 9 blocks. It was an exceptional evening for the former international swingman Jared Ruiz (188-1992) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 11 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals. The former international power forward Jensen Campbell (198-1998) accounted for 13 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side. Dominican center Jose Familia (201-1998) came up with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 19 rebounds and Dominican Xavier de la Rosa (196-1991) added 11 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for Leon in the defeat. Four Leon players scored in double figures. Leon's coach Jorge Velez rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Real Esteli will play against Leones (#6) in Managua in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Leon will play against Tigres and hopes to get back on the winning track. Tigres had a 36-23 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 30 assists. It was an exceptional evening for Jose Perez (-1999) who led the winners and scored 35 points (!!!) and 7 assists. Cuban Emmanuel Calderon (198-1998) accounted for 25 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists for the winning side. Four Tigres players scored in double figures. Tigres' coach Darwin Veliz used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. American forward Kelvin Rivera (168-1996, college: RU Camden) came up with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists and Felix Ramos (-2003) added 22 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Rivas in the defeat. Tigres will play against Leon (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Rivas will play against Brumas (#7) in Jinotega and hope to get finally their first victory. It was an exceptional evening for American-Puerto Rican guard Robert Nieves (186-1999, college: Graceland) who led the winners and scored 42 points (!!!) and 4 assists. American forward Jayson Brower (195-1996, college: John Jay) accounted for 32 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. UNI Basket's coach William Aguilar allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Canadian swingman Zekiah Owens (197-1998, college: AIC) came up with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 16 rebounds and 8 assists and power forward Elgin Mejia (-2001) added 32 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Indigenas in the defeat. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest. They outrebounded Brumas 49-37 including 36 on the offensive glass. It was a great evening for Puerto Rican guard Luis Lopez (182-1998, college: PR-Mayaguez) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists. Puerto Rican power forward Owens Perez (206-1992) helped adding 20 points and 18 rebounds. Caribbean Coast's coach Noel Mackenzie used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Cuban center Marvin Cairo (203-1991) with 23 points and 6 rebounds and the former international Kevin Andino (186-2002) scored 16 points and 5 rebounds. Brumas will play next round against Rivas trying to get back on the winning streak. Caribbean Coast will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
