LSB Round 17 (Regular Season): Derby game ends with Caribbean Coast's defeat of Jaguares

What a coincidence that all visitors won their games. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Managua: Caribbean Coast (#2) and Jaguares (#6). Jaguares were defeated at home 90-100 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Jaguares. Puerto Rican power forward Owens Perez (206-1992) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 20 rebounds. Puerto Rican guard Luis Lopez (182-1998, college: PR-Mayaguez) contributed with 34 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. American Joel Kindred (193-1991, college: St.Augustine) answered with 27 points and 8 rebounds for Jaguares. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Caribbean Coast have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain second place with 11-4 record having just one point less than leader Leones, which they share with Brumas. Jaguares at the other side keep the sixth position with seven games lost. Caribbean Coast is looking forward to face UNI Basket (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Jaguares will have a break next round.
The game in Matagalpa was also worth to mention about. Fourth ranked Real Esteli (10-4) played at the court of 8th ranked Indigenas (3-11). Real Esteli defeated Indigenas 90-78. American-Puerto Rican Christopher Gaston (201-1989, college: Fordham) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and Isaiah Palermo chipped in 21 points and 5 rebounds. Canadian swingman Zekiah Owens (197-1998, college: AIC) responded with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists. Real Esteli maintains fourth place with 10-4 record. Indigenas at the other side keep the eighth position with 11 games lost. Real Esteli will play against bottom-ranked Tigres (#10) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Indigenas will have a break next round.
The game between 10th ranked Tigres (2-12) and second ranked Leones (11-3) in on Thursday ended with biggest points difference. Guests from Managua outscored Tigres 123-70. Kaleb Hunter nailed a triple-double by scoring 26 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists for the winning side. Jose Perez came up with 21 points for Tigres in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Leones keep a position of league leader. Loser Tigres stay at the bottom place with 12 games lost. They share the position with Rivas. Leones will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Tigres will play against Real Esteli (#4) and hope to secure a win.

In the last two games of round 17 Brumas smashed Rivas on the road 96-54. Bottom-ranked Tigres lost to Leon on its own court 84-102.
The most impressive performance of 17th round was 40 points (!!!) and 7 assists by Xavier de la Rosa of Leon.




Jaguares - Caribbean Coast 90-100

The game between 10th ranked Tigres (2-12) and second ranked Leones (11-3) in on Thursday ended with biggest points difference. Guests from Managua outscored Tigres 123-70. Leones dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Tigres' 38. They outrebounded Tigres 51-17 including a 38-13 advantage in offensive rebounds. Leones shot the lights out from three sinking 16 long-distance shots on high 51.6 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Tigres' players. American guard Kaleb Hunter (193-1998, college: UNCG) nailed a triple-double by scoring 26 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists for the winning side and Colombian center Chyse Webster (204-2000) accounted for 13 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Five Leones players scored in double figures. Puerto Rican guard Jose Perez (188-1999) came up with 21 points and Cuban Emmanuel Calderon (198-1998) added 14 points respectively for Tigres in the defeat. Rivas - Brumas 54-96

No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Brumas (11-4) crushed on the road 9th ranked Rivas (2-12) 96-54 on Saturday. Brumas dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Rivas' 34. Brumas forced 26 Rivas turnovers and outrebounded them 50-37 including 35 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Rivas' players. The former international Dalton Cacho (200-1993) nailed 14 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side and American Timothy Simmons (195-1992, college: DBU) accounted for 14 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Brumas players scored in double figures. American Rashad Jackson (191, college: Portland) came up with 16 points and 7 rebounds and Brad Soldevila added 12 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Rivas in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Brumas moved-up to second place, which they share with Caribbean Coast. Rivas lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with 12 games lost. They share it with Tigres.

Five Leon players scored in double figures. Puerto Rican guard Jose Perez (188-1999) came up with 30 points and Cuban Emmanuel Calderon (198-1998) added 13 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Tigres in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Leon maintains fifth place with 10-5 record. Loser Tigres stay at the bottom position with 12 games lost.
