The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Costa Caribe in Managua on Monday night. Hosts were defeated by Leones 79-71. Leones dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Costa Caribe's 30. American guard Noah Williams (196-2001, college: JMU) scored 18 points to lead the charge for the winners and forward Herman Mullins (-2003) chipped in 12 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. American-Puerto Rican forward Oenis Medina (203-1998, college: Kutztown) responded with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Leones is looking forward to face Brumas in Jinotega in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Costa Caribe will play at home against Tigres and is hoping to win this game.
The game in Esteli supposed to be also worth to mention about. Jaguares played at the court of Real Esteli. Jaguares smashed Real Esteli 92-69. Puerto Rican guard Luis Lopez (182-1998, college: PR-Mayaguez) notched 34 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 8 assists to lead the effort and Rodrigo Sierra supported him with 21 points (perfect from downtown making all five shots). Even a double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds by the former international center Bartel Lopez (213-1989) did not help to save the game for Real Esteli. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Jaguares will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Real Esteli will play against Flecheros and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
