LPB U21 Round 6: Univ.West defeat Atletico in the game between Top 4 teams

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

An interesting game for Univ.West (5-1) which played road game in Panama City against second-best Atletico (3-2). First ranked Univ.West had an easy win 108-85. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Atletico. Univ.West had a 42-19 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. 28 personal fouls committed by Atletico helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for Franchesco Controny who led his team to a victory with 36 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 6 assists. point guard Gonzalo Ortiz Jr (182-2) contributed with 23 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Oscar Zephyrine (190-0) replied with 16 points and 8 rebounds for Atletico. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Univ.West have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 5-1 record. Atletico at the other side dropped to the third place with two games lost.
Toros' fans can finally celebrate the first win of their team after five consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Panama City, where they defeated Panteras (2-4) 62-51. Point guard Daniel Machore (170-6) scored 19 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and Damar Wilson chipped in 13 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was Isaac Machore with 10 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 9 steals. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Toros maintains seventh position with 1-5 record. It was Panteras' third loss in a row. They keep the fifth place with four games lost. They share the position with Dragones.

In the last two games of round 6 bottom-ranked Toros were beaten by Correcaminos on the road 72-62. Caballos lost to Dragones on its own court 79-83.
The most impressive performance of 6th round was 16 points, 17 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals by Jose Montenegro of Caballos.



Correcaminos - Toros 72-62

No shocking result in a game when third ranked Correcaminos (4-1) beat bottom-ranked Toros (1-5) in Colon 72-62. Correcaminos forced 21 Toros turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Forward Jorhiel Zapata (196-2) had a double-double by scoring 24 points and 14 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Roberto Armstrong (182-0) chipped in 16 points, 7 assists and 4 steals during the contest. The best for the losing side was guard Damar Wilson with 19 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and guard Francisco Black produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 11 rebounds. Toros' coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Correcaminos moved-up to second place. Toros lost fourth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with five games lost.

Panteras - Toros 51-62

Toros' fans can finally celebrate the first win of their team after five consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Panama City, where they defeated Panteras (2-4) 62-51. Panteras were plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. Point guard Daniel Machore (170-6) scored 19 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and guard Damar Wilson chipped in 13 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was Isaac Machore with 10 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 9 steals and forward Justin Diaz (187-2) scored 11 points and 6 rebounds. Caballos - Dragones 79-83

There was a minor upset when one of their biggest challengers Caballos (3-3) lost to sixth ranked Dragones (2-4) in Aguadulce 79-83. Dragones outrebounded Caballos 58-38 including a 43-30 advantage in defensive rebounds. They brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. Justin Quintero (193-98) had a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and center Jesus Lombardo (201-0) chipped in 13 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was Jose Montenegro (191-98) with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 17 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals and swingman Edward Lopez (190-1) scored 25 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Dragones moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Panteras. Caballos at the other side keep the fourth position with three games lost.
