Montenegro number one in Panamanian LPB U21 for round 7- August 9, 2021
The 23-year old player had a double-double of 26 points and 11 rebounds, while his team edged out Correcaminos (#2, 5-2) 94-91. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Caballos maintains the 3rd position in Panamanian LPB U21. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Caballos will need more victories to improve their 5-3 record. In the team's last game Montenegro had a remarkable 70.0% from 2-point range. He turned to be Caballos' top player in his first season with the team. Jose Montenegro has solid league stats. He is in league's top in points (6th best: 20.4ppg), rebounds (2nd best: 11.4rpg), assists (4th best: 5.0apg) and averages impressive 1.1bpg and 53.4% FGP. The second best player in last round's games was 20-year old Bryan Anderson (185-F-01) of Atletico. Anderson had a very good evening with a double-double of 36 points and 12 rebounds. Bad luck as Atletico was edged by slightly higher-ranked Caballos (#3, 5-3) 89-85. It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. Atletico still maintains its place in the top 4 of the standings, even despite this loss. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 3-4 record. Anderson is a newcomer at Atletico, but is already one of team's top players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 22.0ppg (#3). He also registered 7.9 boards per game. Third on the list of top players last round was center Jesus Lombardo (201-C) of Dragones (#5). Lombardo scored 24 points and grabbed nineteen rebounds (!!!). He was a key player of Dragones, leading his team to a 85-78 win against Atletico (3-4). The chances of Dragones ranking at the top of the league, however are very questionable as they have already lost 4 games, recording just three victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Lombardo could help Dragones to bring them higher in the standings. Lombardo has a great season in Panama. After only 7 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 13.3rpg (#1 in league). Other top performing players last week: 4. Jorhiel Zapata (196-F-02) of Correcaminos - 24 points, 11 rebounds and 2 assists 5. Oscar Zephyrine (190-SF) of Atletico - 27 points and 13 rebounds 6. Roberto Armstrong (182-SG) of Correcaminos - 19 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists 7. Alberto Duque (165-PG) of Caballos - 17 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists 8. Rene Bracho Jr.) of Univ.West - 12 points and 18 rebounds 9. Amilcar Sanchez) of Caballos - 19 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists 10. Juan Palacios (183-G) of Correcaminos - 9 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
