Justin Quintero
Justin Quintero (193-SF-98) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Dragones and that's him to receive a Hoops Agents LPB U21 Player of the Week award for round 8.
The 23-year old had a double-double of 20 points and ten rebounds, while his team crushed Panteras (#6, 3-6) with 20-point margin 71-51. Dragones maintains the 4th position in Panamanian LPB U21. Dragones is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 4-5 record. In the team's last game Quintero had a remarkable 66.7% from 2-point range. He turned to be Dragones' top player in his first season with the team. Quintero has impressive league stats. He is in league's top in points (8th best: 18.4ppg) and averages solid 2.1spg and 60.7% FGP.
The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 23-year old shooting guard Jose Montenegro (191-SG-98) of Caballos. Montenegro impressed basketball fans with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Bad luck as Caballos was edged by the lower-ranked Toros (#7, 3-6) 75-72. Caballos managed to keep the same 3rd spot in the standings. His team's 5-4 record is not bad at all. Montenegro is a newcomer at Caballos and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 20.4ppg (#6). His other stats are also decent: 11.0rpg and 4.9apg.
The third best performed player last round was Guillermo Navarro (170-PG-03) of TOROS DE CHIRIQUI (#7). Navarro showcased his all-around game by recording 19 points, five rebounds and seven assists in the last round. He was a key player of Toros, leading his team to a 75-72 win against the higher-ranked Caballos (#3, 5-4). The chances of Toros not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 6 games, recording just three victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Navarro could try to bring Toros' a little bit higher in the standings. Navarro has a very solid season. In 3 games in Panama he scored 17.3ppg.
