Montenegro's 36-point game gives him LPB U21 Player of the Week award- August 23, 2021
He had the game-high 36 points adding nine rebounds and two assists for Caballos in his team's victory, helping them to beat Univ.West (#1, 7-3) 97-92. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Caballos maintains the 3rd position in Panamanian LPB U21. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Caballos will need more victories to improve their 6-4 record. In the team's last game Montenegro had a remarkable seven three-pointers out of 11 attempts. He turned to be Caballos' top player in his first season with the team. Montenegro has impressive league stats. He is in league's top in points (2nd best: 22.1ppg), rebounds (2nd best: 10.8rpg), assists (4th best: 4.6apg) and averages solid 1.1bpg and 58.4% FGP. Second best performed player last round was Isaac Machore of Panteras. He is a in his first season at Panteras. In the last game Machore recorded impressive double-double of 23 points and 13 rebounds. Bad luck as Panteras lost that game 68-74 to the higher-ranked Atletico (#4, 4-6). Panteras are still at the very bottom. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 3-7 record. Machore is a newcomer at Panteras and quickly became one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 20.4ppg (#5). His other stats are also decent: 7.8rpg and 6.5apg. Third place about best performers goes to forward Jorhiel Zapata (196-F-02) of league's second-best Correcaminos. Zapata scored 20 points and grabbed fourteen rebounds (!!!). Despite Zapata's great performance Correcaminos lost 70-72 to #1 ranked Univ.West. But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. The last thing Correcaminos needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 7 victories and 3 lost games. Zapata has a great season in Panama. After 10 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 9.7rpg (4th best). Other top performing players last week: 4. Oscar Zephyrine (190-SF) of Atletico - 22 points, 18 rebounds and 2 assists 5. Amilcar Sanchez) of Caballos - 22 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists 6. Guillermo Navarro (181-PG-03) of Toros - 17 points, 4 rebounds and 8 assists 7. Roberto Armstrong (182-SG) of Correcaminos - 24 points, 3 rebounds and 7 assists 8. Francisco Black (200-PF-99) of Toros - 16 points and 11 rebounds 9. Bryan Anderson (185-F-01) of Atletico - 19 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists 10. Eduardo Yanis) of Univ.West - 13 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
