Top ranked Correcaminos (7-2) recorded its second loss in Panama City on Friday night. Visitors were defeated by third ranked Halcones (6-2) 87-83. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Halcones dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Correcaminos' 28 and made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Naturalized Chilean guard Eugenio Luzcando (187-95, college: Idaho St.) fired 24 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals for the winners. American guard Logan Santiago (185, college: AIC) chipped in 18 points and 4 assists. Halcones' coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Center Jaime Lloreda (204-80, college: LSU) produced a double-double by scoring 24 points and 13 rebounds for lost side. Halcones have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Atletico Nacional. Correcaminos at the other side still keep top position with two games lost. Halcones is looking forward to face Caballos (#6) in Aguadulce in the next round. Correcaminos will play at home against Toros (#7) and are hoping to win this game.

Fifth ranked Panteras (5-3) saved a 1-point victory at home edging one of their biggest challengers Dragones (4-4) 78-77 in the game for the fourth place. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Dragones. Worth to mention a great performance of Dominican forward Cristian Joan Duran (201-96, college: Tenn Tech) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds. Alejandro Grant contributed with 19 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Forward Pablo Rivas (198-94, college: NCCU) replied with 21 points and 9 rebounds for Dragones. Panteras have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place. Newly promoted Dragones dropped to the fifth position with four games lost. Panteras will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Dragones' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Panama City Atletico.

Carlos Rodriguez had a double-double by scoring 18 points, 6 rebounds, 11 assists and 5 steals to lead the charge for the winners. At the losing side John Hernandez responded with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 16 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 blocks. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending champion maintains sixth position with 2-7 record. Loser Toros still closes the standings with nine games lost. Caballos will meet league's second-placed Halcones in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Toros will play against the league's leader Correcaminos (#1) in Colon and hope to get finally their first victory.
