LPB Round 16: Halcones beat Atletico in a derby game

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Panama City: Halcones (#1) and Atletico (#4). Halcones (11-2) won against visiting Atletico (7-6) 88-76. Halcones forced 21 Atletico turnovers. 25 personal fouls committed by Atletico helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Naturalized Chilean guard Eugenio Luzcando (187-95, college: Idaho St.) fired 25 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals for the winners. The former international Anell Alexis (200-90, college: Marist) chipped in 22 points and 6 rebounds. American guard Alessandro Alberto (192-97, college: Bethesda) produced 13 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists for lost side. Halcones have an impressive ten-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 11-2 record. Atletico lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth place with six games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Worth to mention a great performance of naturalized American Adalberto Rojas (200-86) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds. Bryan Waithe contributed with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Oscar Zephyrine (190-0) replied with 25 points and 4 assists for Toros. Toros' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending champion maintains sixth position with 3-11 record. Toros at the other side still closes the standings with 14 games lost. Caballos will play against higher ranked Panteras (#4) in Panama City in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Toros will play at home against Dragones and hope to get finally their first victory.
