Eugenio Luzcando gets MVP of the Week award for Panamanian LPB- October 25, 2021
The 26-year old guard had the game-high 25 points adding five rebounds and seven assists for Universitarios in his team's victory, helping them to beat Atletico Nacional (#5, 7-6) 88-76. It allowed Universitarios to consolidate first place in the Panamanian LPB. Universitarios have a solid 11-2 record. In the team's last game Luzcando had a remarkable 60.0% from 2-point range. He turned to be Universitarios' top player in his first season with the team. Idaho State University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Luzcando is in league's top in points (8th best: 16.8ppg), assists (2nd best: 6.3apg) and averages solid 52.5% FGP. The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 21-year old forward Gilberto de Gracia (194-F) of Toros. de Gracia impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds. Bad luck as Toros lost that game 67-76 to slightly higher-ranked Caballos (#6, 3-11). Toros are still at the very bottom. 14 lost games are too many considering they did not win any game. de Gracia is a newcomer at Toros and despite he is not a team leader yet, every game he becomes more reliable player. Hopefully performances like the last one will happen more often. The third best performed player last round was American Adalberto Rojas (200-PF-86) of Caballos (#6). Rojas scored 20 points and grabbed eleven rebounds (!!!). He was a key player of Caballos, leading his team to a 76-67 win against Toros (#7, 0-14). Caballos can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 3-11 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Rojas has individually a great season in Panama. After 14 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 9.9rpg (4th best). He also has 1.3bpg and FGP: 52.9%. Adalberto Rojas has also Panamanian passport and can play in the league with a status of domestic player. Other top performing players last week: 4. Bryan Waithe (188-G-94) of Caballos - 14 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists 5. Eduardo Archibold (206-C-87) of Toros - 6 points, 13 rebounds and 2 assists 6. Milos Petkovic (204-F/C-91) of Atletico Nacional - 18 points and 9 rebounds 7. Alessandro Alberto (192-G-97) of Atletico Nacional - 13 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists 8. Jose Montenegro (191-SG-98) of Caballos - 18 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists 9. Anell Alexis (200-PF-90) of Universitarios - 22 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists 10. Oscar Zephyrine (190-SF) of Toros - 25 points, 2 rebounds and 4 assists The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
