LPB Round 7: Panteras beat Atletico in a derby game

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Panama City: Panteras (#2) and Atletico (#6). Panteras (6-2) crushed visiting Atletico (1-7) by 21 points 83-62. Panteras dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Atletico's 36. They outrebounded Atletico 59-41 including a 22-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. Panteras looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Atletico's players. Ecuadorian power forward Lucia Garrido (-92) fired a double-double by scoring 26 points and 18 rebounds for the winners. Naturalized American guard Ashley Reid (165-98, college: Wichita St.) chipped in 17 points, 9 rebounds and 14 assists. Venezuelan point guard Nathaly Malpica (161) produced 23 points for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Panteras maintains second place with 6-2 record behind leader Correcaminos. Atletico lost sixth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with seven games lost. Panteras will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Atletico's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Panama City to the arena Aguilas.
An exciting game was played in Panama City. Third ranked LA U faced 4th placed Amazonas. Host LA U (4-4) defeated guests from Cocle (3-5) 85-81. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Amazonas. Worth to mention a great performance of swingman Diobelis Batista (167-5) who helped to win the game recording 18 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 steals. Crismar Rojas contributed with 22 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. LA U's coach used entire bench in such tough game. Colombian forward Laura Garrido (-90) answered with 21 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists for Amazonas. LA U maintains third place with 4-4 record having just two points less than leader Correcaminos. Amazonas at the other side keep the fourth position with five games lost. LA U will play against league's leader Correcaminos in Colon in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Amazonas will have a break next round.

Aguilas' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Panama City Atletico.
