LPB Round 21: Correcaminos defeat Panteras in the closest game of the week- November 5, 2021
What a coincidence that all visitors won their games. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.
Panteras - Correcaminos 113-114 Fourth-ranked Panteras (9-8) gave a tough game to first ranked Correcaminos (14-3) in Panama City on Thursday. The visitors from Colon managed to secure only one-point victory 114-113. However their fans expected easier game. Correcaminos looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists. 29 personal fouls committed by Panteras helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Center Jaime Lloreda (204-80, college: LSU) stepped up with a triple-double by scoring 19 points, 16 rebounds and 11 assists for the winners and American forward Julius Allgood (203-84, college: UTRGV) chipped in 33 points (!!!) and 4 assists. Five Correcaminos players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Dominican forward Cristian Joan Duran (201-96, college: Tenn Tech) with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 12 rebounds and 5 assists and Alejandro Grant (199-93) scored 32 points and 9 rebounds. Panteras' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Correcaminos have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 14-3 record. Panteras at the other side dropped to the fifth position with eight games lost. Correcaminos are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Toros (#7) in David in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Panteras will have a break next round. Fifth ranked Atletico (9-7) played at the court of 6th ranked Caballos (3-14). Atletico defeated Caballos 111-96. Atletico dominated down low during the game scoring 86 of its points in the paint compared to Caballos' 62. They outrebounded Caballos 50-36 including 18 on the offensive glass. Atletico players were unselfish on offense dishing 33 assists comparing to just 17 passes made by Caballos' players. Serbian power forward Milos Petkovic (204-91, agency: Interperformances) nailed a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!), 16 rebounds and 6 assists for the winning side and American-Salvadorean point guard Robert Martinez (185-91, college: OLLU) accounted for 21 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists. Martinez is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Atletico players scored in double figures. Jose Montenegro (191-98) came up with 32 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and naturalized American Adalberto Rojas (200-86) added 10 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for Caballos in the defeat. Caballos' coach tested ten players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Atletico moved-up to fourth place. Caballos lost third consecutive game. Defending champion keep the sixth position with 14 games lost. Atletico's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Panama City Dragones.
