Centinelas - Lobos 69-73 There was no surprise when Centinelas (0-5) were defeated at home by Lobos (3-1) 73-69 on Sunday. It was a great evening for Costa Rican Victor Arias (197-1995) who led his team to a victory scoring 18 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Costa Rican swingman Daniel Shedden (191-1996, college: MSUB) helped adding 17 points and 7 rebounds. Four Lobos players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Lucas Chavez (187-1995) with 27 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and American Antonio Austin (196-1991, college: SDCC) scored 16 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Lobos will meet Halcones (#4) in the next round. Centinelas will play against Caballos in Aguadulce and hope to get finally their first victory. Halcones were crushed at home by 55 points 55-110 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Atletico shot 61.2 percent from the field. They also forced 20 Halcones turnovers. They shot the lights out from three nailing 16 long-distance shots on high 61.5 percentage. Atletico players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Halcones' players. It was a good game for power forward Josimar Blenman (200-1989, college: Globe Tech) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Point guard Joel Munoz (183-1980) contributed with 11 points and 9 assists for the winners. Five Atletico players scored in double figures. Grant Alejandro (199-1993) answered with 16 points and 5 rebounds and guard Bryan Waithe (188-1994, college: Lindenwood) added 9 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Halcones. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Halcones made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was Grant Alejandro (199-1993) who scored 34 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds. Guard Bryan Waithe (188-1994, college: Lindenwood) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds. Halcones' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Carlos Ibarra (170-1995) who recorded 13 points and 7 rebounds and American swingman Brandon Franklin (191-1993, college: Pacific Union) added 12 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Halcones are looking forward to face Lobos (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. It was a great evening for point guard Guillermo Navarro (181-2003) who led his team to a victory scoring 14 points. Forward Michael Hicks (196-1976, college: TAMUCC) helped adding 10 points and 8 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Arturo Molina (182-2003) with 16 points and the former international Israel Munoz (196-1991) scored 9 points and 5 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Caballos will meet at home Centinelas (#6) in the next round. Halcones will play against Centinelas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
