LPBF Round 2: LA U hand first loss to Amazonas

There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in LPBF. Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Amazonas in Cocle on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by LA U 76-68. LA U forced 28 Amazonas turnovers and had a 21-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Swingman Diobelis Batista (167-2005) orchestrated the victory by scoring 27 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 9 steals. Venezuelan guard Crismar Rojas contributed with 19 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. LA U's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Honduran forward Nelly Rapalo (173-1999) replied with 28 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists for Amazonas. LA U are looking forward to face Felinas in the next round. Amazonas will play against Cobras and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Important game to mention about took place in . Felinas saved a 3-point victory at home edging LA U 62-59 on Sunday evening. Costa Rican point guard Maria Alfaro (163-1998) scored 25 points and 6 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Tayina Ellis chipped in 6 points, 16 rebounds and 8 blocks during the contest. Felinas' coach used entire bench in such tough game. Venezuelan guard Crismar Rojas responded with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Felinas will play against Leonas in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. LA U will have a break next round.
Very important is a home loss of Felinas against Cobras on Sunday night. Host Felinas were defeated by Cobras in 71-53. Paola Rivas notched a double-double by scoring 16 points, 18 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals to lead the effort. Even 4 points and 12 rebounds by Ashley Serrut did not help to save the game for Felinas. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Cobras will meet at home Amazonas in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Felinas will play against Leonas and hope to win that game.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 2: Leonas smashed Felinas on the road 84-52. Amazonas won against Cobras on its own court 68-63. Bottom-ranked LA U were outscored by Leonas in a road game 86-57. Felinas was rolled over Amazonas at home 69-88. Leonas defeated Cobras on the opponent's court 60-56.

Felinas - Leonas 52-84

No shocking result in a game when Leonas crushed on the road Felinas 84-52 on Saturday. Leonas forced 24 Felinas turnovers. Venezuelan point guard Nathaly Malpica (161) notched 16 points and 9 assists to lead the effort and Venezuelan Amanda Torres (170-1989) supported her with 19 points and 8 rebounds. Four Leonas players scored in double figures. Even 12 points by Ivanis Gonzalez did not help to save the game for Felinas. Costa Rican point guard Maria Alfaro (163-1998) added 13 points and 4 steals for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Leonas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Felinas will play again against Leonas and hope to win that game.

Rather expected game when Cobras lost to Amazonas in Cocle 63-68 on Saturday. Amazonas forced 20 Cobras turnovers. Honduran forward Nelly Rapalo (173-1999) notched 13 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 blocks (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) to lead the effort and Sofia Ponce (174-2007) supported her with 18 points and 7 rebounds. Four Amazonas players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 21 points and 14 rebounds by Colombian forward Paola Rivas (178) did not help to save the game for Cobras. Center Natasha Villar (178) added 15 points and 14 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Amazonas will again meet Cobras in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Cobras will have a break next round.

Rather predictable result when Leonas rolled over at home LA U 86-57 on Friday. Leonas dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to LA U's 40. Leonas forced 20 LA U turnovers. Forward Stephanie Portocarrero notched a double-double by scoring 19 points and 18 rebounds to lead the effort and Venezuelan point guard Nathaly Malpica (161) supported her with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Four Leonas players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 20 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists by Venezuelan guard Crismar Rojas did not help to save the game for LA U. Forward Katie Caicedo (185-2000) added 9 points and 11 rebounds for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Leonas will meet at home Felinas in the next round. Honduran forward Nelly Rapalo (173-1999) notched 26 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists to lead the effort and Yosuanny Chambers supported her with 27 points and 6 rebounds. Even a double-double of 14 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists by Ashley Serrut did not help to save the game for Felinas. Ivanis Gonzalez added 12 points and 6 rebounds for the hosts. Four Felinas players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Amazonas will meet Cobras in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Center Natasha Villar (178) added 10 points and 15 rebounds for the hosts. Cobras' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Leonas will meet at home Felinas in the next round. Cobras will play against Amazonas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
