LA U - Cobras 67-54 An exciting game was played in Panama City. Third ranked LA U faced one of their biggest challengers Cobras. Host LA U (4-4) defeated guests from (3-5) 67-54. LA U forced 23 Cobras turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Venezuelan guard Crismar Rojas who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points and 14 rebounds. Swingman Diobelis Batista (167-2005) contributed with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Colombian forward Paola Rivas (178) replied with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 14 rebounds and center Natasha Villar (178) added 13 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Cobras. Cobras' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. LA U have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Newly promoted Cobras keep the fourth position with five games lost. LA U will play against Amazonas (#3) in Cocle in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Cobras will play against Felinas and it may be a tough game between close rivals. First ranked Leonas faced 3rd ranked Amazonas. Guests from (6-1) defeated host Amazonas (3-3) 83-65. Leonas looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Venezuelan point guard Nathaly Malpica (161) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 assists and Venezuelan Amanda Torres (170-1989) who added 14 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Four Leonas players scored in double figures. At the losing side Honduran forward Nelly Rapalo (173-1999) responded with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists and center Gloria Martinez (181) scored 8 points and 9 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Leonas have an impressive six-game winning streak. Newly promoted Leonas maintains first position with 6-1 record. Amazonas lost third consecutive game. They keep the third place with three games lost. Leonas will meet league's second-placed LA U in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Amazonas will play against Felinas and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Felinas made 7 blocks. 24 personal fouls committed by Cobras helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Esther Vega fired a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Tayina Ellis (182-1984) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points, 17 rebounds and 5 blocks. Four Felinas players scored in double figures. Colombian forward Paola Rivas (178) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 15 rebounds and point guard Lya Gonzalez (167-2007) added 13 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Newly promoted Felinas maintains fifth position with 2-5 record. Cobras at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keep the fourth place with five games lost. Felinas are looking forward to face higher ranked Amazonas (#3) in Cocle in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Cobras will play again against Felinas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
