LPBF Round 6: Leonas are defeated by Felinas- November 22, 2022
The Regular Season in LPBF just ended. Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.
Amazonas - Cobras 51-48 Important game to mention about took place in Cocle. Fourth ranked Amazonas (6-6) saved a 3-point victory at home edging second-best Cobras (6-6) 51-48 in the game for the second place. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Cobras. Strangely Cobras outrebounded Amazonas 57-45 including 20 on the offensive glass. Jisslenys Dominguez notched a double-double by scoring 10 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the effort and guard Lirieth Gonzalez (170-2001) supported her with 17 points and 8 rebounds. Even 4 points and 16 rebounds by Darlenys Ortega did not help to save the game for Cobras. Veronica Douglas added 12 points. Amazonas moved-up to second place, which they share with LA U and Cobras. Visitors were defeated by Felinas 67-52. They held Leonas to an opponent 23.1 percent shooting from the field compared to 42.9 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Leonas 54-37 including a 43-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Tayina Ellis (182-1984) had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 20 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Esther Vega chipped in 17 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. Four Felinas players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Venezuelan point guard Nathaly Malpica (161) with 14 points and Venezuelan Amanda Torres (170-1989) scored 10 points and 7 rebounds. Leonas' coach rotated ten players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Newly promoted Felinas maintains fifth position with 4-8 record. Leonas at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still keep top place with four games lost. LA U forced 19 Felinas turnovers. The best player for the winners was Venezuelan guard Crismar Rojas who scored 19 points and 8 rebounds. Mariangel Concha (173-2004) chipped in 19 points and 9 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Tayina Ellis (182-1984) who recorded 9 points and 15 rebounds and Ivanis Gonzalez added 12 points and 6 rebounds respectively. LA U moved-up to second place, which they share with Amazonas and Cobras. Newly promoted Felinas stay at the bottom position with eight games lost. They outrebounded LA U 53-38 including 18 on the offensive glass. Cobras looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was Colombian Laura Garrido (172-1997) who scored 26 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. Center Natasha Villar (178) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points and 14 rebounds. Cobras' coach felt very confident using entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was swingman Diobelis Batista (167-2005) who recorded a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds and Venezuelan forward Veronica Guedez (170-2001) added 12 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Cobras have a solid three-game winning streak. Newly promoted Cobras maintains second position with 6-6 record having just two points less than leader Leonas, which they share with LA U and Amazonas. Leonas forced 22 Amazonas turnovers. Strangely Amazonas outrebounded Leonas 69-40 including a 33-15 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Venezuelan point guard Nathaly Malpica (161) who scored 31 points, 6 assists and 4 steals. Venezuelan Amanda Torres (170-1989) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds. Leonas' coach used a ten-player rotation saving starting five for next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Colombian center Libia De la Rosa (185-1992) who recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points, 23 rebounds, 4 assists and 7 steals and Colombian Juliana Jimenez (-2000) added 22 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists respectively. Four Amazonas players scored in double figures. Newly promoted Leonas maintains first position with 8-4 record. Loser Amazonas dropped to the second place with six games lost. They share the position with LA U and Cobras.
