Laura Garrido
Colombian Shooting guard Laura Garrido (172-SG-1997) had an amazing evening in the last round for second-ranked Cobras, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 6.
The 25-year old player was the main contributor (26 points, nine rebounds and seven assists) to her team's victory, helping them to crush LA U (6-6) with 23-point margin 73-50. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Cobras maintains the 2nd position in Panamanian LPBF. Cobras is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 6-6 record. Garrido turned to be Cobras' top player in her first season with the team. Laura Garrido averages just after three games 29.7ppg, 8.3rpg and 4.7apg.
The second best player in last round's games was young Tayina Ellis (182-PF-1984) of Felinas. Ellis had a very good evening with a double-double of 18 points and 20 rebounds. Of course she led Felinas to another comfortable win 67-52 over the higher-ranked Leonas (#1, 8-4) being unquestionably team leader. Despite this victory they still are the league outsider. Her team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 4-8 record. Ellis is a newcomer at Felinas and despite she is not a team leader yet, every game she becomes more reliable player. Hopefully performances like the last one will happen more often.
Third on the list of top players last round was Colombian center Libia De la Rosa (185-C-1992) of Amazonas (#4). De la Rosa showcased her all-around game by recording 17 points, twenty three rebounds (!!!) and four assists in the last round. Despite De la Rosa's great performance Amazonas lost 73-81 to #1 ranked Leonas. But her team cannot count on just a single player as she also needs help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. The last thing Amazonas needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 6 victories and 6 lost games. De la Rosa has a very solid season. In 4 games in Panama she scored 14.5ppg.
Other top performing players last week:
4. Nathaly Malpica (161-PG) of Leonas - 31 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists
5. Esther Vega) of Felinas - 17 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists
6. Natasha Villar (178-C) of Cobras - 13 points and 14 rebounds
7. Mariangel Concha (173-SF-2004) of LA U - 19 points and 9 rebounds
8. Crismar Rojas (G) of LA U - 19 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists
9. Diobelis Batista (167-G/F-2005) of LA U - 18 points and 12 rebounds
10. Jisslenys Dominguez) of Amazonas - 10 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists
The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
