LPBF Round 5 (Regular Season): Felinas defeat Correcaminos

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Correcaminos (3-1) in Colon on Friday night. Hosts were edged by Felinas (4-0) 56-53. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Felinas forced 22 Correcaminos turnovers. Colombian Laura Garrido (172-1990) orchestrated the victory by scoring 28 points and 6 rebounds. Colombian forward Paola Rivas (178) contributed with 17 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Mexican forward Diana Armas (185-1993) answered with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 19 rebounds for Correcaminos. Correcaminos' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Felinas have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 4-0 record. Newly promoted Correcaminos dropped to the third position with one game lost.
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Cobras (3-2) against fourth ranked Correcaminos (3-1) on Saturday night. Host Cobras were defeated by Correcaminos in a tough game at home 47-56. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Cobras. Veronica Vega (169-1991) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and Diana Armas chipped in 14 points and 8 rebounds. Center Natasha Villar (178-2005) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 18 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Correcaminos moved-up to third place. Cobras at the other side dropped to the fourth position with two games lost.
LPBF top team - Felinas (4-0) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they beat sixth ranked Aguilas (0-4) in Panama City 69-52. Laura Garrido nailed 23 points and 7 steals for the winning side. Charity Alleyne came up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds for Aguilas in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Felinas have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 4-0 record. Loser Aguilas still closes the standings with four games lost.

In the last two games of round 5 LA U was beaten by Cobras on the road 66-58. Panteras won against LA U on its own court 59-47.

Cobras - LA U 66-58

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both third ranked Cobras and 5th ranked LA U had identical 2-2 record. This time Cobras used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Panama City 66-58 on Friday night. Center Natasha Villar (178-2005) nailed a double-double by scoring 27 points and 14 rebounds for the winning side and American forward Jessica Martino (178-2000, college: Delaware St.) accounted for 19 points and 15 rebounds. Venezuelan guard Crismar Rojas came up with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals and Venezuelan forward Veronica Guedez (170-2001) added 21 points and 8 rebounds respectively for LA U in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Cobras have a solid series of three victories in a row. Despite that victory Cobras went down to fourth position due to points difference. Loser LA U keeps the fifth place with three games lost.

LPBF top team - Felinas (4-0) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they beat sixth ranked Aguilas (0-4) in Panama City 69-52. Felinas forced 28 Aguilas turnovers. Strangely Aguilas outrebounded Felinas 56-33 including a 21-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Colombian Laura Garrido (172-1990) nailed 23 points and 7 steals for the winning side and Layla Lee accounted for 14 points and 11 rebounds. Four Felinas players scored in double figures. Charity Alleyne (162) came up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds and center Angelica Racine added 12 points and 16 rebounds respectively for Aguilas in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Felinas have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 4-0 record. Loser Aguilas still closes the standings with four games lost.

Rather expected game when 5th ranked LA U (2-3) lost on the road to second ranked Panteras (4-1) 59-47 on Saturday. Panteras held LA U to an opponent 21.8 percent shooting from the field compared to 27.6 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded LA U 69-47 including a 48-31 advantage in defensive rebounds. Naturalized American guard Ashley Reid (165-1998, college: Wichita St.) nailed 30 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side and Venezuelan Amanda Torres (170-1989) accounted for 2 points and 16 rebounds. Swingman Diobelis Batista (167-2005) came up with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds and Venezuelan guard Crismar Rojas added 17 points and 6 rebounds respectively for LA U in the defeat. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Newly promoted Panteras maintains second place with 4-1 record having just one point less than leader Felinas.
