LPBF Round 6 (Regular Season): Panteras edge Correcaminos by three points

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of second-best Correcaminos (5-2) to third ranked Panteras (6-2) 80-77 in the game for the second place. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Correcaminos. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The best player for the winners was naturalized American guard Ashley Reid (165-1998, college: Wichita St.) who scored 18 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Tayina Ellis (182-1984) chipped in 10 points and 14 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Mexican point guard Paola Beltran (164-1994) who recorded 25 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists. Correcaminos' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Panteras moved-up to second place. Correcaminos at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the third position with two games lost.
Top-ranked Felinas faced 4th ranked Cobras. Guests from (7-0) defeated host Cobras (3-4) 55-44. It was a good game for Colombian Laura Garrido (172-1990) who led her team to a victory with 13 points and 7 rebounds. Paola Rivas contributed with 10 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Center Natasha Villar (178-2005) replied with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds for Cobras. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Undefeated Felinas have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 7-0 record. Cobras lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth place with four games lost.
Bottom-ranked Aguilas (0-6) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 59-40 loss to sixth ranked Artesanas (2-6) in on Sunday evening. Juliana Jimenez had a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 10 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners. Artesanas' coach used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was Angelica Racine with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 19 rebounds. Newly promoted Artesanas maintains sixth position with 2-6 record. Loser Aguilas still closes the standings with six games lost.

In the last game of round 6 Panteras defeated LA U in a road game 71-61.

LA U - Panteras 61-71

There was no surprise in Panama City where 5th ranked LA U (2-5) was defeated by third ranked Panteras (6-2) 71-61 on Sunday. Panteras forced 19 LA U turnovers. Naturalized American guard Ashley Reid (165-1998, college: Wichita St.) had a double-double by scoring 21 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Venezuelan point guard Nathaly Malpica (161) chipped in 24 points and 6 steals during the contest. The best for the losing side was Venezuelan guard Crismar Rojas with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 10 rebounds and Nickielys Alvarez scored 11 points and 8 rebounds. Panteras moved-up to second place. LA U lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with five games lost.

Artesanas - Aguilas 59-40

Bottom-ranked Aguilas (0-6) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 59-40 loss to sixth ranked Artesanas (2-6) in on Sunday evening. They also forced 33 Aguilas turnovers. Strangely Aguilas outrebounded Artesanas 53-32 including a 42-22 advantage in defensive rebounds.
