Felinas (8-1) recorded its first loss in Panama City on Friday night. Visitors were defeated by fifth ranked Universitarias (4-6) 69-57. LA U dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Felinas' 24. The best player for the winners was Venezuelan guard Crismar Rojas who scored 32 points and 8 rebounds. Swingman Diobelis Batista (167-2005) chipped in 17 points and 11 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Colombian Laura Garrido (172-1990) who recorded a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds. LA U maintains fifth place with 4-6 record. Felinas at the other side still keep top position with one game lost.
Bottom-ranked Aguilas (0-10) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 61-42 loss to second ranked Felinas (8-1) in Panama City. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. It was a good game for Colombian forward Paola Rivas (178) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds. Layla Lee contributed with 14 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Center Angelica Racine answered with 8 points and 22 rebounds for Aguilas. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Felinas keep a position of league leader. Aguilas at the other side still closes the standings with ten games lost.
The game in Penonome was also quite interesting. Second ranked Correcaminos (8-2) played at the court of 6th ranked Artesanas (3-8). Correcaminos defeated Artesanas 53-39 on Saturday. Destiny Patrick stepped up with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Correcaminos' coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was Juliana Jimenez with 7 points and 16 rebounds. Correcaminos have a solid series of three victories in a row. Newly promoted Correcaminos maintains second place with 8-2 record having just one point less than leader Felinas. Artesanas at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keep the sixth position with eight games lost.
