Canada - USA 81-73
Canada celebrated the title at the Panamerican Games in Toronto. The hosts outgunned the USA in the Final. Kia Nurse (183-G-96) stepped up with impressive 33 points and 6 rebounds to pace the hosts. The USA jumped to a 23:13 lead after ten minutes. Canada however bounced back and leveled things up at 36 heading into the second half. Canada drained 26 points in the third term to take an 11-point lead. The USA fired 22 points in the fourth frame but Canada hung on to seal the victory. Natalie Achonwa (190-F-92, college: Notre Dame) produced 13 points in the win. Breanna Stewart (193-F-94) responded with 17 points and 11 rebounds for the USA.
3-4 Place
Cuba - Brazil 66-62
Cuba earned the Bronze medals at the Panamerican Games. They edged Brazil in the consolation final. Clenia Noblet (190-C-87) posted 16 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. Cuba earned a 37:32 halftime lead. Brazil narrowed the gap in the third term. They pulled within a single point at the final intermission. However Cuba held their opponents to just 14 points in the fourth period and rallied to the victory. Ineidis Casanova (165-PG-88) accounted for 18 points for Cuba. Taina Paixao (176-G-91) responded with 16 points for Brazil.


Canada and USA advance into championship game - Jul 20, 2015

SEMIFINALS
Brazil - Canada 63-91
Canada paved their way into the title game with a convincing victory over Brazil. Kia Nurse (183-G-96) recorded 15 points for the hosts. Canada rallied to a 22:9 lead after the opening quarter. They unloaded 33 points in the third term to take a 29-point lead at the final break. Canada marched to the victory afterwards. Lizanne Murphy (185-F-84, college: Hofstra) finished with 12 points for Canada. Isabela Lyra (180-F-94) responded with 16 points and 11 rebounds for Brazil.

USA - Cuba 65-64
The USA withheld a fierce opposition from Cuba to advance into the Panamerican Games Final. Linnae Harper (173-G-95) produced 16 points to pace the North American team. The USA eked out an 18:17 lead after the opening quarter. But Cuba responded with a 20:8 rally in the second term to take a 37:26 halftime advantage. The USA narrowed the deficit at 2-point mark at the final intermission. The USA held Cuba to just 16 points in the fourth period and snatched a tough victory at the end. Shatori Walker-Kimbrough (180-G) delivered 15 points for the winners. Ineidis Casanova (165-PG-88) and Clenia Noblet (190-C-87) responded with 15 points for Cuba.
5-6 Place
Puerto Rico - Argentina 56-77
Argentina finished fifth at the Panamerican Games. They knocked down Puerto Rico in the last game at the tournament. Gisela Vega (188-C-82, agency: Josep and Nicolas) posted 18 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Argentina accumulated a 34:24 halftime lead. They extended the gap at 13-point mark at the final intermission. Argentina never looked back afterwards marching to the victory. Ornella Santana (183-F/C-90) and Sthefany Thomas (175-F/G-89, college: Clemson) provided 12 points each for the winners. Yashira Delgado (157-G-92, college: Florida St.) responded with 19 points for Puerto Rico. Sandra Garcia (190-C-90, college: Wake Forest) had 15 points and 9 rebounds in the loss.

7-8 Place
Dominican Republic - Venezuela 56-72
Venezuela earned the seventh position in Toronto. They rallied past Dominican Republic tonight. Roselis Silva (166-PG-91, agency: Gamble Sports Management, college: Arkansas Tech) tallied 31 points to pace the winners. Venezuela posted a 42:36 halftime lead. They went on a 20:7 rally in the third term to boost the gap at 19-point mark. Dominican Republic narrowed the gap in the fourth term but could not rescue the game. Waleska Perez (180-SG-94, college: Weatherford JC) and Yosimar Corrales (184-F/C-90) had 13 points each for the winners. Sugeiry Monsac (186-F/C-81) responded with 13 points and 13 rebounds for Dominican Republic.

Group A
USA - Puerto Rico 93-77
The USA bagged the third straight victory in Toronto. They fired past Puerto Rico to clinch the top position in Group A. Breanna Stewart (193-F-94) topscored with 24 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. The USA ensured a 46:41 halftime lead. Puerto Rico pulled within 3 points at the final intermission. But the North American team sank 26 points in the fourth quarter and rallied to the victory. Alaina Coates (193-C) had 23 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Carla Cortijo (172-G-87, agency: Gamble Sports Management, college: Texas) responded with 24 points for Puerto Rico.

Brazil - Dominican Republic 73-54
Brazil earned the second victory at the PanAmerican Games. They beat Dominican Republic to secure the semifinal birth. Jaqueline Silvestre (178-F-86) and Gilmara Justino (191-C-81) finished with 17 points each for the winners. Brazil accumulated a 43:22 halftime lead and never looked back en route to the win. Taina Paixao (176-G-91) added 13 points for the winners. Sugeiry Monsac (186-F/C-81) responded with 17 points for Dominican Republic.

Group B
Canada - Cuba 71-68
Natalie Achonwa connected for 15 points to propel Canada past Cuba in a highly contestant game. The hosts eked out a 40:35 halftime lead. Canada boosted the margin at 12-point mark at the final intermission. Cuba however went on a 20:11 run in the fourth frame to threaten the hosts' lead. Canada withheld the challenge and escaped with a narrow victory. Nirra Fields (175-G-93) delivered 12 points for the North American team. Oyanaisy Gelis (172-SG-83) responded with 18 points for Cuba as they finished in the second position in Group B.

Argentina - Venezuela 87-68
Andrea Boquete Manna (183-F/C-90) scored 18 points and collected 6 rebounds to lead Argentina past Venezuela in Toronto. Argentina jumped to an early lead. They secured a 39:28 halftime advantage. Argentina fired 48 points in the second half and coasted to the win. Ornella Santana (183-F/C-90) contributed 14 points and 9 rebounds for Argentina. Roselis Silva (166-PG-91, agency: Gamble Sports Management, college: Arkansas Tech) answered with 20 points for Venezuela.

Dominican Republic - USA 55-94
Team USA rolled past Dominican Republic for 2-0 record in Toronto. Breanna Stewart (193-F-94) delivered 16 points to lead the winners. The USA dominated from start to finish. They piled up a comfortable 48:21 halftime lead. The USA unloaded 46 points in the second half and cruised to the victory. Alaina Coates (193-C) had 14 points for the winners. Carmen Guzman (172-SG-85, agency: Merit Management Group, college: UAB) responded with 14 points for Dominican Republic.

Puerto Rico - Brazil 57-62
Brazil celebrated the first victory in Group A. They overcame Puerto Rico for 1-1 record. Jaqueline Silvestre (178-F-86) posted 13 points to lead the winners. Brazil jumped to a 20:14 lead after ten minutes. They ensured a 46:40 lead before the fourth quarter. Puerto Rico held Brazil to 16 points in the final frame but could not avoid the defeat. Kelly Santos (192-C-79, agency: Interperformances) finished with 11 points for the winners. Carla Cortijo (172-G-87, agency: Gamble Sports Management, college: Texas) responded with game-high 20 points for Puerto Rico.

Argentina - Canada 58-73
Canada clinched the second consecutive victory in Toronto. The hosts rolled past Argentina to remain undefeated. Miranda Ayim (191-F/C-88, college: Pepperdine) and Tamara Tatham (185-F-85, agency: Regeneracom Sports, college: Massachusetts) finished with 12 points each for Canada. The hosts secured a 28:21 halftime lead. Argentina narrowed the gap at 3-point mark heading into the fourth quarter. But Canada sank 26 points in the final period and eased to the win. Miah-Marie Langlois (173-PG-91) delivered 11 points for Canada. Melisa Gretter (161-PG-93, agency: Josep and Nicolas) and Andrea Boquete Manna (183-F/C-90) tossed in 8 points each for Argentina.

Venezuela - Cuba 62-73
Cuba topped Venezuela to gain 2-0 record in Group B. Yamara Amargo (179-PF-85) stepped up with 18 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Cuba opened a 21:18 lead after ten minutes. Veneziela denied the deficit in the second frame. They evened things up at 34 at the interval. Cuba however bounced back witha 39:28 run in the second half to get away wih the victory. Team USA accounted for a 39:31 halftime lead. They protected the advantage well throughout the second half and marched to the victory. Moriah Jefferson (170-G-94) delivered 21 points for the winners. Patricia Teixeira (176-G/F-90) responded with 18 points for Brazil. Kelly Santos had 10 points and 11 rebounds in the loss.

Puerto Rico - Dominican Republic 76-54
Puerto Rico claimed the opening victory in Toronto. They rallied past Dominican Republic in Group A. Carla Cortijo (172-G-87, agency: Gamble Sports Management, college: Texas) stepped up with 15 points and 8 boards to pace the winners. Puerto Rico piled up a 49:28 halftime lead. Dominican Republic pulled within 15 points at the final intermission. But Puerto Rico held their opponents to just 7 points in the fourth quarter to rally to the win. Canada eased past Venezuela for the first victory in Toronto. Seven players scored in double digits for the hosts. Canada raced to a comfortbale 48:19 halftime lead. They did not loosen the grip in the second half coasting to the victory. Lizanne Murphy (185-F-84, college: Hofstra) finished with 15 points and 9 rebounds for Canada. Shona Thorburn (178-G-82, college: Utah) accounted for 14 points in the victory. Roselis Silva (166-PG-91, agency: Gamble Sports Management, college: Arkansas Tech) responded with 13 points for Venezuela.

Cuba - Argentina 68-55
Yamara Amargo (179-PF-85) nailed 17 points to pace Cuba past Argentina in the opening game in Toronto. Cuba jumped to an early lead. They built a 23:12 advantage after ten minutes. Argentina narrowed the distance at 7-point mark heading into the fourth quarter. But Cuba used an 18:12 run in the fourth frame to seal the win. Leidis Oquendo (180-F-82) had 10 points for Cuba.
