Argentina clinch title in Lima - Aug 5, 2019

Argentina clinched Gold medals at the championship. They overcame Puerto Rico in the title game. Argentina looked dominant throughout the entire game. They established a 40:30 halftime lead. Argentina followed with a 24:16 run in the fourth period to ice the victory. Luis Scola (206-F/C-80) accounted for 28 points and 9 rebounds, while Patricio Garino (198-SF-93, college: GWU, agency: Wasserman) and Gabriel Deck (199-SF-95) added 11 points each for Argentina. Devon Collier (203-PF-91, college: Oregon St.) answered with 19 points and 12 rebounds for Puerto Rico.
3-4 Place
Dominican Republic - USA 83-92
USA claimed the Bronze medals in Lima. They beat Dominican Republic in the consolation final on Sunday. Dominican Republic accumulated a 5-point lead at the final break 65:60. But USA ignited a 32:18 rally in the fourth period to snatch the win. Collin Gillespie (190-G) produced 24 points, while Alpha Diallo (201-G-97) added 23 points for the North American side. Gelvis Solano (185-G-94, college: Merrimack) replied with 26 points for Dominican Republic.

Puerto Rico - Dominican Republic 65-63
Puerto Rico topped Dominican Republic to enter the title game. Dominican Republic snatched an 18:13 lead after ten minutes. But Puerto Rico went on a 21:8 run in the second quarter to get an 8-point halftime lead. They extended the gap at 9-point mark at the final intermission and hung on to secure the victory in the fourth quarter. Isaac Sosa Carrion (190-G-90, college: Canisius) produced 13 points, while Devon Collier (203-PF-91, college: Oregon St.) added 12 points for the winners. Eloy Vargas (211-C-88, college: Kentucky, agency: Duran International) and Juan Miguel Suero (198-PG-93) answered with 15 points each for Dominican Republic.

Argentina - USA 114-75
Argentina smashed USA to advance into the championship game in Lima. Argentina dominated from start to finish in this one. They posted a massive 61:36 halftime lead. The Latin American side dropped 53 points in the second half to ease to the win. Gabriel Deck (199-SF-95) delivered 23 points, while Luis Scola (206-F/C-80) and Nicolas Laprovittola (190-PG-90) added 18 points each for the winners. David Duke (196-G-99) replied with 16 points for USA.

Venezuela - Uruguay 78-68
Venezuela finished fifth at the championship. They beat Uruguay in the final game in Lima. Jhornan Zamora (196-G/F-89) produced 15 points to lead the winners. Uruguay enjoyed a 25:19 lead after ten minutes. But Venezuela cut the distance to a single point at halftime. They used a 19:9 run in the fourth term to snatch the win. Nestor Colmenares (203-PF-87, college: Campbellsville, agency: Pro Sports) had 14 points for Venezuela. Martin Rojas (197-F-98) replied with 17 points for Uruguay.

7-8 Place
U.S. Virgin Islands - Mexico 81-92
Mexico wrapped up their Lima campaign on a winning note. They toppled US Virgin Islands to clinch the 7th position. Mexico went on a strong 54:24 first half run. US Virgin Islands narrowed the gap in the third term but Mexico sank 26 points in the final stanza and raced to the win. Jorge Camacho (203-F-89, college: EKU) posted 18 points, while Jaime Jaquez (198-G/F-01) added 17 points for Mexico. Walter Hodge (183-PG-86, college: Florida) replied with 25 points for US Virgin Islands.

Puerto Rico - USA 87-84
Puerto Rico defeated USA to clinch the top position in Group A. USA grabbed a 38:27 lead ten minutes into the game. But Puerto Rico replied with a strong 41:27 run in the second half to snatch the win. Devon Collier (203-PF-91, college: Oregon St.) came up with 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Ivan Gandia-Rosa (185-G-97) and Derek Reese (201-F-93, college: Tennessee) added 11 points each for Puerto Rico. Jermaine Samuels connected for 17 points in the defeat.

U.S. Virgin Islands - Venezuela 84-87
Venezuela celebrated the first win in Lima. They nipped US Virgin Islands to finish third in Group A. Jhornan Zamora posted 19 points to lead the winners. US Virgin Islands claimed a 9-point halftime lead. But Venezuela went on a 48:36 run in the second half to ice the win. Gregory Vargas (180-PG-86, agency: Pro Sports) had 14 points in the victory. Georgio Milligan (187-PG-90, college: Franklin & Marshall) replied with 22 points for US Virgin Islands.

Uruguay - Dominican Republic 57-83
Dominican Republic reached the semifinal stage in Lima as they beat Uruguay for the second win in Group B. Uruguay led by four points at the first break but Dominican Republic quickly turned things around. They ignited a 58:26 rally in the second half to ease to the victory. Lionel Figueroa (201-G/F-98) tossed in 16 points, while Juan Miguel Suero (198-PG-93) added 13 points in the win. Kiril Wachsmann (203-C-84, college: Iona) responded with 9 points and 13 rebounds for Uruguay.

Mexico - Argentina 72-64
Mexico outscored Argentina but failed to make it into the semis. Jose David Estrada (194-G-94, agency: Pro Sports) came up with 18 points to lead the winning side. Argentina enjoyed a 20:10 lead after ten minutes. But Mexico went on a decisive 21:9 run in the fourth quarter to secure the victory. Gabriel Deck (199-SF-95) notched 13 points for Argentina.

Puerto Rico defeated US Virgin Islands for the second straight win in Group A. Puerto Rico grabbed a 59:27 halftime lead. US Virgin Islands drained 62 points in the second half but could not escape the loss. Argentina outlasted Dominican Republic in overtime to earn 2-0 record in Group B. Gabriel Deck (199-SF-95) stepped up with 24 points to lead the effort. Facundo Campazzo (181-PG-91) added 17 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds for the winning side. Adris De Leon (180-PG-84, college: EWU) answered with 21 points for Dominican Republic.

Uruguay - Mexico 72-61
Uruguay opened win count in Lima. They held off Mexico for 1-1 record. Uruguay accounted for a 30:24 halftime lead. Mexico surged ahead in the third term. They entered the fourth stanza up by two points. But Uruguay used a 28:15 run in the final frame to rally to the win. Martin Rojas (197-F-98) netted 19 points, while Luciano Parodi (182-PG-94) added 16 points for Uruguay. Jose Zesati (205-C-94) provided 19 points for Mexico.

Puerto Rico - Venezuela 73-64
Puerto Rico prevailed against Venezuela in the first game in Lima. Venezuela recorded a 30:26 halftime lead. But Puerto Rico stepped on the gas in the second half. They poured in 47 points and rallied to the win. Devon Collier (203-PF-91, college: Oregon St.) led well-balanced effort with 13 points. Mexico - Dominican Republic 61-65 OT
