Group APuerto Rico - USA 87-84Puerto Rico defeated USA to clinch the top position in Group A. USA grabbed a 38:27 lead ten minutes into the game. But Puerto Rico replied with a strong 41:27 run in the second half to snatch the win. Devon Collier (203-PF-91, college: Oregon St.) came up with 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Ivan Gandia-Rosa (185-G-97) and Derek Reese (201-F-93, college: Tennessee) added 11 points each for Puerto Rico. Jermaine Samuels connected for 17 points in the defeat. U.S. Virgin Islands - Venezuela 84-87 Venezuela celebrated the first win in Lima. They nipped US Virgin Islands to finish third in Group A. Jhornan Zamora posted 19 points to lead the winners. US Virgin Islands claimed a 9-point halftime lead. But Venezuela went on a 48:36 run in the second half to ice the win. Gregory Vargas (180-PG-86, agency: Pro Sports) had 14 points in the victory. Georgio Milligan (187-PG-90, college: Franklin & Marshall) replied with 22 points for US Virgin Islands. Group BUruguay - Dominican Republic 57-83Dominican Republic reached the semifinal stage in Lima as they beat Uruguay for the second win in Group B. Uruguay led by four points at the first break but Dominican Republic quickly turned things around. They ignited a 58:26 rally in the second half to ease to the victory. Lionel Figueroa (201-G/F-98) tossed in 16 points, while Juan Miguel Suero (198-PG-93) added 13 points in the win. Kiril Wachsmann (203-C-84, college: Iona) responded with 9 points and 13 rebounds for Uruguay. Mexico - Argentina 72-64 Mexico outscored Argentina but failed to make it into the semis. Jose David Estrada (194-G-94, agency: Pro Sports) came up with 18 points to lead the winning side. Argentina enjoyed a 20:10 lead after ten minutes. But Mexico went on a decisive 21:9 run in the fourth quarter to secure the victory. Gabriel Deck (199-SF-95) notched 13 points for Argentina. |
