LNB Round 2 (Second Stage): Colonias are defeated by Olimpia K. in a derby game

There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Second Stage in LNB. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Asuncion: Olimpia K. and Colonias. Colonias were smashed at home by 17 points 67-84 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Olimpia K. outrebounded Colonias 43-32 including 31 on the defensive glass. American power forward Jeremiah Wood (201-1985) scored 9 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the former international Rodney Mercado (191-1999) chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) during the contest. International center Juan Poisson (198-1998) responded with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Another interesting game was again a derby between two teams from Asuncion: San Jose and Felix Perez. Felix Perez was defeated at home 64-78 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. International forward Franco Benitez (199-1994) notched 16 points and 8 rebounds to lead the effort and Nicolas Paletta supported him with 16 points and 4 assists. Even a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds by Argentinian Aaron Pablo (200-2000) did not help to save the game for Felix Perez. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Campo Alto crushed at home Guairena by 34 points 85-51, which is the biggest margin this round on Tuesday night. The best player for the winners was Kal Godans who scored 25 points and 5 rebounds. Diego Ortega produced 12 points and 7 rebounds for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Campo Alto will meet Amambay in the next round. Guairena will play against Ciudad N. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last two games of round 2 Amambay won against Luqueno on the opponent's court 70-60. Ciudad N. outscored San Alfonso in a home game 97-64.



Luqueno - Amambay 60-70

Rather expected game when Luqueno was defeated at home by Amambay 70-60 on Tuesday. Amambay shot 20 for 28 from the free-throw line, while Luqueno only scored two points from the stripe. The best player for the winners was Brazilian guard Osmar Ventura (190-2004) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds. Hugo Ramos chipped in 21 points and 5 rebounds. Amambay's coach used a ten-player rotation saving starting five for next games. Donatto Ferro produced 20 points and 6 rebounds and Argentinian point guard Santiago Peralta (183-2000) added 6 points and 6 assists respectively for the hosts. Amambay will meet at home Campo Alto in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Luqueno will play against San Alfonso and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Campo Alto held Guairena to an opponent 25.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 47.8 percent accuracy of the winners. Campo Alto forced 20 Guairena turnovers and outrebounded them 51-34 including a 36-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Kal Godans who scored 25 points and 5 rebounds. Carlos Dos Santos chipped in 16 points and 8 rebounds. Four Campo Alto players scored in double figures. Diego Ortega produced 12 points and 7 rebounds and Luis Davalos added 11 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. Rather predictable result in Asuncion where Ciudad N. smashed San Alfonso 97-64 on Tuesday. Ciudad N. dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to San Alfonso's 34. Ciudad N. forced 19 San Alfonso turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was point guard Giuliano Girett (172-2001) who scored 15 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Venezuelan Eduardo Rios (198-1988) chipped in 20 points and 5 rebounds. Five Ciudad N. players scored in double figures. Ciudad N.'s coach felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Argentinian guard Nicolas Reyero (183-2004) produced 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international Maxsuel Roque added 15 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. Ciudad N. will meet Guairena in the next round. San Alfonso will play against Luqueno and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
