San Jose (4-1) recorded its first loss in Asuncion on Thursday night. Hosts were defeated by leader Colonias (4-0) 66-62. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of San Jose. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The best player for the winners was Diego Silva who scored 16 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. International center Juan Poisson (198-1998) chipped in 8 points and 8 rebounds. Argentinian point guard Guillermo Aliende (178-1997) produced 15 points and 5 assists for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Colonias have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to second place. American guard Charles Hinkle (198-1988, college: American) orchestrated the victory by scoring 27 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Jeremiah Wood contributed with 12 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Argentinian Fabio Gauto (190-2002) answered with 18 points and 5 rebounds for Felix Perez. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Undefeated Olimpia K. have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 5-0 record. Felix Perez lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth position with three games lost. They share it with Campo Alto. Olimpia K.'s supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Asuncion Colonias.
Ciudad N. can celebrate their first win this season after four consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Luque, where they edged Luqueno (0-4) 69-67 on Thursday. Nelson Peralta stepped up with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Joao Lima responded with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Luqueno's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Ciudad N. (1-4) left bottom position moving up to eighth place. It was Luqueno's fourth loss in a row. They still close the standings with four games lost. Ciudad N. will meet at home higher ranked San Alfonso (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Luqueno will play against Felix Perez (#7) in Asuncion and hopes to get finally their first victory.

In the last game of round 5 Amambay crushed San Alfonso in a road game 108-75.



San Alfonso - Amambay 75-108

There was a minor upset when 4th placed San Alfonso (2-2) was crushed at home by sixth ranked Amambay (2-3) 108-75 on Thursday. Amambay outrebounded San Alfonso 41-24 including a 20-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Amambay looked well-organized offensively handing out 36 assists comparing to just 19 passes made by San Alfonso's players. Gabriel Riveiro stepped up and scored 27 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners and Brazilian guard Osmar Ventura (190-2004) chipped in 18 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. American Desmond Holloway (194-1990, college: Coastal) responded with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and Silvio Moura scored 15 points and 7 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Amambay moved-up to fifth place. Loser San Alfonso keeps the fourth position with two games lost. Amambay will meet at home Campo Alto (#6) in the next round. San Alfonso will play against Ciudad N. in Asuncion and hope to secure a win.
