BSN Round 29 (Regular Season): Arecibo is defeated by Quebradillas

The most crucial game of the last round was another loss of top-ranked Capitanes (21-10) in Quebradillas on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by fourth ranked Piratas (14-17) 83-73. International forward Phillip Wheeler (204-2002) stepped up and scored 21 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and DR Congolese point guard Emmanuel Mudiay (196-1996) chipped in 20 points. Piratas' coach Raymond Cintron used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international Alfonso Plummer (185-1997, college: Illinois) responded with 24 points. Quebradillas maintains fourth place with 14-17 record. Arecibo lost third consecutive game. They still keep top position with ten games lost. Quebradillas are looking forward to face San German (#6) at home in the next round. Arecibo will play against the league's leader Guaynabo (#1) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Indios (14-15) against fifth ranked Leones (13-16) on Sunday night. Host Indios were defeated by Leones in a tough game in Mayaguez 91-98. The former international Jordan Murphy (200-1997, college: Minnesota) nailed 22 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side and Jezreel De Jesus accounted for 19 points. Guard Luis Lopez (182-1998, college: PR-Mayaguez) came up with 24 points (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) for Mayaguez in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Leones have a solid series of three victories in a row. Ponce maintains fifth place with 13-16 record. Mayaguez lost third consecutive game. They keep the third position with 15 games lost. Ponce will play against Manati (#5) on the road in the next round. Mayaguez will play against Ponce in Juana Diaz and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Gigantes (17-14) against fifth ranked Cangrejeros (16-14) on Monday night. Visiting Gigantes were defeated by Cangrejeros in Santurce 97-81. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Gigantes. The best player for the winners was Jared Sullinger who had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 15 rebounds. Scottie James Jr produced 13 points and 9 rebounds for the guests. Gigantes' coach rotated eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Santurce moved-up to fourth place. Defending champion Carolina keeps the third position with 14 games lost. Santurce will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Carolina will play against Bayamon and hope to secure a win.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 29: Aguada won against Bayamon on the opponent's court 82-76. San German unfortunately lost to Manati in a home game 88-100. Guaynabo recorded a loss to Caguas on the road 69-82.



Bayamon - Aguada 76-82

Rather expected game in Bayamon where 6th ranked Vaqueros (9-21) were defeated by third ranked Aguada (15-17) 82-76 on Saturday. Americans were the main players on the court. The best player for the winners was John Meeks (197-1999, college: Charleston) who scored 24 points and 5 rebounds. Guard Sheldon Mac (196-1992, college: Miami, FL, agency: Slash Sports) chipped in 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Kyle Rose (193-2000, college: Fordham) produced 17 points and 5 rebounds and forward Kristian Doolittle (201-1997, college: Oklahoma, agency: Pensack Sports) added 10 points and 12 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Four Aguada and five Bayamon players scored in double figures. Vaqueros' coach rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Aguada moved-up to second place. Bayamon lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with 21 games lost. Aguada will meet at home league's second-placed Caguas in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Bayamon will play against Carolina (#3) and hope to secure a win.

The best player for the winners was Mali power forward Cheick Diallo (206-1996, college: Kansas) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists. American point guard Norris Cole (188-1988, college: CSU) chipped in a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 assists. Five Osos players scored in double figures. Australian swingman Mitch Creek (196-1992) produced 22 points and 5 rebounds and naturalized American guard Eric Ayala (198-1999, college: Maryland) added 21 points respectively for the hosts.
