Indios de Mayaguez (BSN) strengthened their roster with addition of 32-year old American power forward DaJuan Summers (203-109kg-88, college: Georgetown). He played most recently at Shimane Susanoo Magic in Japanese B1 League. In 7 games he recorded very impressive stats: 17.4ppg, 8.0rpg, 1.3apg and 1.1spg previous season.
In 2009 Summers was drafted by Detroit Pistons (NBA) in second round (35th overall). He attended Georgetown University and it will be his twelfth (!!!) season in pro basketball.
Summers is a very experienced player. Thanks to his pro career he managed to play on three different continents (Europe, Asia and of course North America) in eight different countries. Summers has played previously professionally in France (Levallois), Italy, Korea (SK Knights), Spain (Gran Canaria), Turkey (Pinar Karsiyaka and Galatasaray), Ukraine, NBA (New York Knicks) and NBA G League (Maine Red Claws and Westchester Knicks).
Among many awards Summers' team made it to the Turkish Cup Final Four in 2017. He received also Asia-Basket.com All-FIBA Asia Champions Cup 1st Team award in 2018.
The scouts decsribe him following way: (by Borko Popic for NBADraft.net in 2009)
An athletic, explosive wing player, whose muscular physique makes him a very promising talent At 6'8 he has great size for the perimeter positions He has nice bulk on his frame and he knows how to use it, whether its absorbing contact when getting to the hoop, or taking advantage of a mismatch in the low-post.
He depends on his strength too much to get by his defender as his first step is not first class He is more comfortable operating out of the triple threat rather than working off the dribble, where he struggles handling the ball at times
