RJ Melendez gets MVP of the Week award for Puerto Rican BSN

International Forward RJ Melendez (201-F-2002) had a very impressive game in the last week for league's leader Capitanes de Arecibo and that's him to receive a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for week 5.
The 23-year old forward had a double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds, while his team beat Quebradillas (#6, 0-9), the league's bottom-ranked team 101-95. It allowed Capitanes to jump to the first place in the Puerto Rican BSN. They would have been even better if they did not have these two lost games earlier in Regular Season. Arecibo has a very solid 6-2 record, but they cannot be too comfortable about keeping top position. In the team's last game Melendez had a remarkable 66.7% from 2-point range. He just recently signed at Capitanes, being already a very valuable addition to the team. RJ Melendez averages just after three games 26.3ppg and 6.7rpg.

The second most remarkable performance in last week's games was young DR Congolese guard Emmanuel Mudiay (196-G-1996) of Piratas de Quebradillas. Mudiay impressed basketball fans with a triple-double of 31 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists. Bad luck as Piratas was edged by the higher-ranked Aguada (#3, 6-2) 117-114. Quebradillas managed to keep the same 6th spot in Group A. 9 lost games are too many considering they did not win any game. Mudiay is one of the most experienced players at Quebradillas and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 20.6ppg (#4). His other stats are also decent: 6.0rpg and 6.3apg.

The third best performed player last week was Cuban center Ismael Romero (205-C-1991) of Mets de Guaynabo (#6). Romero showcased his all-around game by recording 26 points, 14 rebounds (!!!) and 4 assists in the last week. Despite Romero's great performance the Mets lost 78-97 to the higher-ranked Caguas (#1, 6-2). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Guaynabo not to end season at such low position in Group B, however are less than slim as they have already lost 6 games, recording just three victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Romero could try to bring Guaynabo's a little bit higher in the standings. Romero has individually a great season in Puerto Rico. After only 9 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 17.8ppg (6th best) and rebounds with 9.1rpg (5th best). Ismael Romero has also Puerto Rican passport and can play in the league with a status of domestic player.

7. Tyler Davis (208-C-1997) of Manati - 21 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists
8. Victor Liz (190-G/F-1986) of Quebradillas - 31 points and 2 assists
9. Montrezl Harrell (203-C-1994) of San German - 18 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists
10. Nick Perkins (203-F/C-1996) of San German - 23 points, 3 rebounds and 5 assists
