Brazil - Argentina 49-46
Brazil claimed the title in Buenos Aires. They held off Argentina in the title game. Taissa Nascimento (178-SF-2005) produced 20 points and 12 rebounds for the champions. Argentina and Brazil stayed neck and neck throughout the first half. They were tied at 19 heading into the second half. Brazil used a 15-9 run in the third term to clear off. Argentina dropped 18 points in the fourth period but could not recover from the deficit as Brazil drove to the title. Giovanna Rocha (187-C-2005) had 11 points and 18 rebounds for the winners. Alma Bourgarel (160-G-2006) replied with 13 points for Argentina.
3-4 Place
Uruguay - Colombia 43-60
Colombia earned the third place as they rallied past Uruguay in the consolation final. Uruguay recorded a 27-23 halftime lead. But Colombia used a massive 37-16 run in the second half to secure the victory. Juliana Gomez (183-SG-2004) had 15 points, while Valeria Rodriguez (SG-2008) added 11 points in the victory. Pierina Rossi (171-F-2004) answered with 18 points for Uruguay.

5-6 Place
Ecuador - Chile 59-28
Ecuador thumped Chile to earn the fifth position in the final ladder. Ecuador led by 5 points at the big break 19-14. They went on a 25-3 run in the fourth period to get away with an easy win. Gia Zambrano (175-F-2005) and Nahomy Nazareno (185-C-2007) finished with 10 points each for Ecuador. Martina Orellana (170-PG-2004) replied with 11 points for Chile.

7-8 Place
Venezuela - Bolivia 57-68
Bolivia finished their campaign on a high note. They nipped Venezuela to earn the seventh overall position. Bolivia enjoyed a narrow 30-29 halftime lead. They went on a 21-13 rally in the fourth term to snatch the win. Florencia Coppe finished with 18 points, while Sarahi Velazco (169-SG-2004) added 17 points for the winners. Fabiana Garcia (169-PG-2006) and Georgina Correia (175-G/F-2005) tossed in 15 points each for Venezuela.

Argentina cruised past Colombia to advance into the Final. The hosts dominated from start to finish in Buenos Aires. Argentina recorded a 35-25 halftime lead. They followed with a 17-7 run in the third term to clear off for good. Angelina Giacone (181-F-2005) delivered 17 points and 13 rebounds, while Alma Bourgarel (160-G-2006) added 16 points in the victory. Maria Salguedo (168-PG-2005) replied with 11 points for Colombia.

Brazil - Uruguay 59-47
Brazil knocked down Uruguay to advance into the title game in Buenos Aires. Brazil used a 14-4 run in the second period to open a 10-point lead. They held Uruguay to just 11 points in the third term to open a 14-point lead. Uruguay narrowed the gap in the fourth frame but could not avoid the loss. Stephany Goncalves (180-C-2004) finished with 14 points, while Taissa Nascimento (178-SF-2005) added 13 points and 13 rebounds for Brazil. Paula Fernandez (178-PF-2005) answered with 12 points for Uruguay.

Uruguay knocked down Venezuela to register the second win in Group B. Uruguay dominated from start to finish. They established a 29-16 halftime advantage. They followed with a 16-7 run in the third term to clear off for good. Lucia Auza (182-F-2005) and Sofia Herrera (179-SG-2005) provided 19 points each for the winners. Romina Mudarra (180-SF-2005) replied with 13 points and 8 rebounds for Venezuela.

Chile - Colombia 53-64
Colombia rallied past Chile to stay unbeaten in Group B. Chile led by five points at the first break. But Colombia responded with a 21-12 run in the next term to surge ahead. They followed with a 23-16 run in the fourth quarter to drive to the win. Silvia Suarez (174-PG-2004) had 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Colombian team. Vania Vega (173-SG-2005) tossed in 19 points for Chile.

Ecuador - Bolivia 54-40
Ecuador improved at 2-1 record in Group A as they rallied past Bolivia. Ecuador and Bolivia were tied at 21 after twenty minutes of action. But Ecuador went on a strong 15-6 run in the fourth period to run away with the win. Maria Sarmiento (173-F-2004) provided 17 points to lead the effort. Mary Candia (173-G-2004) answered with 13 points and 8 rebounds for Bolivia.

Paraguay - Brazil 39-70
Brazil thumped Paraguay to gain the third straight victory. Brazil went on a 24-2 run in the first period and never looked back en route to the victory. Arianny Francisco (184-C-2005) provided 18 points in the win. Pamela Encina (2005) netted 7 points for Paraguay.

Chile - Uruguay 47-59
Uruguay overcame Chile to improve at 1-1 record in Group B. Uruguay set the tone early in the game. They piled up a 38-24 halftime lead. Chile limited their opponents to just 21 points in the second half but could not avoid the loss at the end. Sofia Herrera (179-SG-2005) tallied 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Maita Pereira added 15 points for Uruguay. Martina Orellana (170-PG-2004) answered with 15 points for Chile.

Brazil - Argentina 56-53
Brazil held off Argentina to stay undefeated in Group A. Ana Passos (176-PF-2005) scored 14 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to pace the winners as they gained the second straight victory. Argentina recorded a 13-6 lead after ten minutes. But Brazil gradually took over in this one. They went on a 37-29 run in the second half and snatched a narrow win at the end. Stephany Goncalves (180-C-2004) and Taissa Nascimento (178-SF-2005) had 12 points each for the winners. Alma Bourgarel (160-G-2006) replied with 15 points for Argentina.

Bolivia - Paraguay 92-57
Bolivia cruised past Paraguay to record the first win at the championship. Bolivia dominated from start to finish. They established a 47-24 halftime advantage. They sank 45 points in the second half and never looked back en route to the victory. Florencia Araoz (172-G-2005) notched 18 points, while Camila Prado (171-PG-2005) added 17 points in the win. Agostina Ochipinti (170-PG-2004) answered with 12 points for Paraguay.

Ecuador used a 20-9 run in the second period to open a 31-22 halftime lead. Ecuador stretched the lead to as many as 16 points in the third period and rallied to the victory at the end. Antonella Luraghi (2006) answered with 19 points and 12 rebounds for Paraguay.

Argentina - Bolivia 66-56
Argentina held off Bolivia to gain the second straight win in Group A. The teams went neck and neck throughout the first half. Argentina eked out a 29-28 halftime lead. They followed with a 20-12 run in the third period to boost the margin. Argentina protected the lead throughout the fourth quarter and raced to the win. Angelina Giacone (181-F-2005) tossed in 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for Argentina. Daniela Leano (175-G/F-2004) answered with 16 points for Bolivia.

Venezuela - Chile 53-73
Chile knocked down Venezuela to claim the first win in Buenos Aires. Chile dominated throughout the game. They established a 37-30 halftime advantage. They held Venezuela to just 23 points in the second half and raced to the victory. Betsabe Pizarro (173-PG-2005) banked in 21 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds for Chile. Fabiana Garcia (169-PG-2006) had 10 points for Venezuela.

Uruguay - Colombia 57-61 OT
Colombia rallied past Uruguay in overtime to gain the first win in Group B. Colombia established a 30-22 halftime advantage. Colombia extended the margin at 12-point mark at the third break. But Uruguay responded with a 21-9 run in the fourth period to force overtime. Colombia however limited their opponents to just 4 points in the extra period and raced to the win. Valeria Rodriguez (176-SF-2005) delivered 20 points and 8 rebounds for Colombia. Lucia Auza (182-F-2005) dropped 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for Uruguay.



South American U18 Championship host confirmed - Mar 17, 2022
MIAMI (United States) - The Youth competitions return to South America with the FIBA U18 Americas qualifying tournaments for both Men and Women.

The FIBA Regional Office in the Americas has officially confirmed the South American U18 Championship will be played in Caracas, Venezuela in the Gimnasio Jose Joaquin "Papa" Carrillo from 21st to 26th March, while the South American U18 Women's Championship will be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina from 4th to 9th of April in the historic Estadio Obras Sanitarias.

"This event gives us a wonderful opportunity, as all eyes will be on the FVB, and we are certain that it will be an event at the level of the best international basketball. We work tirelessly to meet expectations and give new joy to the country," Hanthony Coello said.

"At CAB we constantly support women's basketball, and we are proud that FIBA Americas, with Carol Callan and Carlos Alves at the helm, trust us and once again give us the opportunity to organize another international event. Especially when it is an event linked to women's basketball," said CAB President Fabian Borro.
