Paraguay - Ecuador 57-64
Ecuador recorded the first win at the championship. They edged Paraguay to improve at 1-1 record in Group A. Maria Sarmiento (173-F-2004) scored 16 points to pace the winners. Ecuador used a 20-9 run in the second period to open a 31-22 halftime lead. Ecuador stretched the lead to as many as 16 points in the third period and rallied to the victory at the end. Antonella Luraghi (2006) answered with 19 points and 12 rebounds for Paraguay.

Argentina - Bolivia 66-56
Argentina held off Bolivia to gain the second straight win in Group A. The teams went neck and neck throughout the first half. Argentina eked out a 29-28 halftime lead. They followed with a 20-12 run in the third period to boost the margin. Argentina protected the lead throughout the fourth quarter and raced to the win. Angelina Giacone (181-F-2005) tossed in 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for Argentina. Daniela Leano (175-G/F-2004) answered with 16 points for Bolivia.

Venezuela - Chile 53-73
Chile knocked down Venezuela to claim the first win in Buenos Aires. Chile dominated throughout the game. They established a 37-30 halftime advantage. They held Venezuela to just 23 points in the second half and raced to the victory. Betsabe Pizarro (173-PG-2005) banked in 21 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds for Chile. Fabiana Garcia (169-PG-2006) had 10 points for Venezuela.

Uruguay - Colombia 57-61 OT
Colombia rallied past Uruguay in overtime to gain the first win in Group B. Colombia established a 30-22 halftime advantage. Colombia extended the margin at 12-point mark at the third break. But Uruguay responded with a 21-9 run in the fourth period to force overtime. Colombia however limited their opponents to just 4 points in the extra period and raced to the win. Valeria Rodriguez (176-SF-2005) delivered 20 points and 8 rebounds for Colombia. Lucia Auza (182-F-2005) dropped 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for Uruguay.
