Colombia won the Gold at the U17 South American Championship in Pasto. They managed to grab 55-54 thriller win against Argentina in the Big Final. Of course, Argentina won the Silver. Maria Tapias (95) was the leading scorer in victory with 20 points. Elizabeth Gutierrez (94) secured a great help adding 12 points and 7 rebounds. In the loosing squad, Micaela Sancisi (160-G-94) replied with 19 points and 7 rebs. Victoria Llorente (96) followed her with 16 points. Argentina was slightly better team in the first quarter winning it 13-11. Colombia answered with 8-14 after that taking 4-point lead at the halftime. Third quarter was pretty leveled, but still Argentina won it by one, 20-19. In thriller finish, the home squad was concentrated, but also had a little bit more sports luck to take 55-54 victory at the end.
Places 3-4
Brazil won the Bronze in Pasto (U17 South American championship). They outplayed Chile 61-49 in the last day of the competition to take this medal. Chile ended as No.4. Vitoria Domingos (96) stepped up for the winners with 17 points and 8 rebounds. Monique Soares (97) followed her with 14 points and 11 boards, while Izabella Frederico (95) added 13 points and 5 rebs. On the other side, Chile had just two players with double-digits in scoring. Dayanne Garcia and Estefania Vasquez (167-G-94) had 10 pts each.
Brazil did a great job in the first half. They won the Q1 14-10 and later continued with 17-9 for the next ten minutes. Chile slightly improved after the breather, but still Brazil ended third period with 14-13. The only quarter which belonged to Chile was the last one 16-17, but it was too late for them.
Places 5-6
Ecuador finished as No.5 at the U17 South Americas championship in Pasto (Colombia). They handed 69-45 loss to Uruguay to take this position. Rina Yepez (95) was totally the best player in this victory. She collected 29 points and 7 rebounds for 37 minutes. Maria Carrasco (94) had 19 points and 5 rebounds, and Alba Hermig (95) added 9 points. In the loosing squad, Florencia Sergio (96) shined with 16 points and 12 boards. Victoria Cardone (95) stopped to 9 pts. Ecuador had wonderful second half and thanks to it they celebrated comfortable win last night. Before that Uruguay made 8-11 in the first period and Ecuador replied with 20-14 after that. Rina Yepez and her teammates blasted Uruguay with 21-8 in third quarter and later closed this game with 20-12 (Q4) for the final 69-45 victory.
Peru ended as the last ranked team at this event (No.7).
