Bolivia - Brazil 56-69
Brazil opened win count in Group A. They overcame pesky Bolivia in the opener. Brazil trailed by two points at the first break. They however ignited a 36-23 second half rally to snatch the victory at the end. Julia Preis (191-C-2009) scored 30 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to pace the winners. Diandy Pedraza (165-SF-2008), Valeria Mendizabal (172-C-2008) and Daira Alias (170-PG-2008) scored 12 points each for Bolivia.

Argentina - Uruguay 75-66
Argentina held off Uruguay in Asuncion. Uruguay grabbed a 24-22 lead after ten minutes. But Argentina responded with a 45-25 run in the next two periods to surge ahead for good. Sofia Novoa (174-PG-2008) posted 18 points, while Sofia Lombardero (180-G-2008) tossed in 15 points for Argentina. Julieta Laubert (169-G-2008) responded with 21 points for Uruguay.
