Venezuela posted the first win at the championship as they held off hosting Chile in Group B. Chile recorded a 35-27 halftime lead. But Venezuela limited their opponents to just 19 points in the second half and snatched a narrow victory. Astrid Inojosa (174-G-2008) posted 24 points and 7 steals for the winners. Josefa Jimenez (174-SF-2009) and Constanza Mella (175-F-2009) recorded 14 points each for Chile. Uruguay - Brazil 49-74 Brazil fired past Uruguay to improve at 2-1 record in Group A. Brazil dominated from start to finish. They established a 38-25 halftime lead. They poured in 36 points in the second half to race to the win. Julia Preis (191-C-2009) and Sara Martins (180-SF-2008) finished with 14 points each for Brazil. Julieta Laubert (169-G-2008) replied with 15 points for Uruguay. Argentina - Ecuador 65-35 Argentina claimed the third straight win in Asuncion. They thumped Ecuador to stay undefeated. Argentina recorded a 34-19 halftime lead and cruised to the win in the second half. Sofia Novoa (174-PG-2008) posted 11 points, while Francisca Canello (182-F/C-2009) added 10 points for Argentina. Sandra Chuya (179-F-2009) answered with 9 points for Ecuador. Paraguay - Colombia 65-58 Paraguay toppled Colombia to open win count in Asuncion. Paraguay eked out a 38-36 halftime lead. They followed with a 19-14 rally in the third term to ensure a 7-point lead. Paraguay held Colombia to just 8 points in the fourth term and raced to the win. Karin Caceres (175-G-2010) banked in 13 points for Paraguay. Jacqueline Edelman (178-G-2008) posted 19 points and 14 rebounds for Colombia. |
