Guillermo Moreno is at the other side of the phone, the admired and respected colombian coach sounds confident, is like the feeling to be back in a place that belongs to him he obviously knows that the job is a big challenge, but is ready to face it.
According his plan the team should be together in June 12, at this time he is confirmed to be the coach just for the Southamerican Tournament but deep inside him wants to earn a chance to handle a process, this is probably the best time ever to start , having talent growing in the US College basketball and a professional league in the country, he is not saying it but this chance to work with such a talented group is his motivation.
LB: Coach, how goes the contacts with the players abroad ?.
GM: The National federation is working on the contacts, actually we know that Juan Diego Tello is recovering from and injury and we are not going to have him, but still have to wait the results of the federation contacts.
LB: What are the goals of this team?
GM: Build an identity for our basketball, give to our players the opportunity to show his talent and get some projection and most important get a place among the top 5 to get the right to play in the World Cup qualifier.
LB: Which are the strengths of this group?
GM: The Colombian players has a good athletic and technical potential, also the talent to compete at a high level in South America, but we need to believe that we can do it, we need to believe in ourselves and in this way make the people believe in us, the physical and technical aspects are already present on our players, now we want to help them to believe.
LB: Time looks too short to build chemistry and put a system ?
GM: Yes time is short, but i'm confident that with this two weeks of preparation and the 3 games we have before the tournament our team will be in condition to compete, our main problem at this time is that we have to stop the local league and suddenly change the focus of the players to the national team, while other countries will be solely focused on the tournament, however having our players in game rhythm is something that we need to take advantage.
