Halcones UV Xalapa win Group B of the FIBA Americas League

Halcones UV Xalapa (3-0) won Group B of the FIBA Americas League by beating Uniceub/BRB 98-87. Both teams qualified to the second round of the FIBA Americas League.

Jovan Harris scored 28 points, 23 of them in the second half to lead the Mexicans. Lou Roe added 24 points and Leandro Garca Morales 23 to help Harris.

Uniceub dominated the game in the first quarter led by Alex Garcia who had 12 points and his team ended up 29-20. The Mexicans were led by Garcia Morales who had 11.

In the second quarter the Mexicans reacted with a 10-0 to be up 37-35 led by Roe and Garcia Morales. The Brazilians reacted with Arthur Luiz and Guilherme to recover the lead but in the final seconds Jovan Harris made a three pointer to leave the score at halftime tied at 44.

Harris along with Roe led the offense for Halcones in the third to give them the lead and end up 73-68. In the final quarter the game was defined in the last couple of minutes with a 9-2 run to take a 91-82 lead and their efficiency from the free throw line secured the win.

In the loss Alex Garcia had 25 points while Nezinho and Guilherme had 15 each. Uniceub/RBb finished with a 2-1 mark.

The action of the FIBA Americas League continues on January 11, 2011 with Group C to be played in Ibarra, Ecuador with Mavort, Flamengo Ro de Janeiro and Quimsa Santiago del Estero. The fourth team in this group will be decided in the Chilean National League finals between Boston College and Espaol de Talca.
