Giving the origin of Olimpia as Paraguayan and not Uruguayan may be just one of the errors contained in this list of tournaments, as well as other Consubasket documents. Another error in this list is that it establishes the city of Guayaquil as the venue for the 1958 championship, when in fact all the documentation of the time establishes that it was played in Quito, and gives Sporting as the only champion, when there was a triple tie.
The tournament must also have been played in 1947 and not in 1946, since Olimpia was not the Uruguayan champion. Although the Red Wings won the Federal 1946, they only won the title in January 1947. That is, it could never be played in 1946, as the South American Confederation now maintains, but in 1947. Another similar tournament had already been held the previous year. in Argentina, in which Trouville represented Uruguay, but there are no records of how he qualified. IN SUMMARY: - In 1946 or 1947 there was a South American club championship, organized by Gimnasia y Esgrima, presumably GEBA) that was won by Olimpia of Paraguay, (according to Consubasket) or Olimpia of Uruguay (according to this club). - The first official South American championship club championship was played in 1953 in Chile. The second in Montevideo.
