Cancun, Mexico In front of an effervescent fan base present at the Poliforum Benito Juarez, yesterday the 2012 FIBA Americas League was officially launched with messages from the governor, Mr. Roberto Borge, from the President of FIBA Americas, Mr. Horacio Muratore, and two exciting games in which the Union of Formosa of Argentina and the hosts of Pioneros of Quintana Roo gave a great display of basketball for the entire continent.
In the first game, Union de Formosa of Argentina defeated the team of Fuerza Regia de Monterrey, 98-73. From the beginning of the game, Union de Formosa came out highly aggressive, clearly dominating the team from Monterrey. Fuerza Regia was competitive and came out to battle. But the offensive force of the Union, especially from Joseph Smith (28 points in the game) was too much for the Regiamontanos, who ended up losing the game big.
In the second game, the hosts of Pioneros de Quintana Roo got their first win tonight, 104-73, against the Brazilian club of Vivo / Franca. Pioneros looked strong, with a very complete squad that dominated the Brazilian team from the beginning with a run of 14 to 2 that opened the game. Franca had no answer for the big game that the Mexican National Team member Robert Hornsby had, ending the game with 26 points.
Tomorrow the action continues with South American duel in the early game when the teams of Vivo / Franca and Union of Formosa collide.
The second game will be a duel of the Mexican clubs when Pioneros faced Fuerza Regia of Monterrey.
