Defending champion Al Ahly Cairo (Superleague) agreed terms with experienced 35-year old Virgin Islander-U.S. Virgin Islands international point guard Walter Hodge (183cm-1986, college: Florida) for new 2022-23 season. It is actually his comeback to Cairo as he has played here before. Hodge played this summer at Capitanes de Arecibo in Puerto Rican BSN league. In 32 games just recently he had very impressive stats: 19.1ppg, 2.5rpg and 5.8apg. The last season he played at Kuwait (D1) in Kuwaiti league. He helped them to win the league title and the Supercup.
Hodge also represented U.S. Virgin Islands at the Panamerican Games in Lima (Peru) three years ago. His stats at that event were 4 games: Score-1 (22.0ppg), 3.5rpg, Assists-4 (3.0apg), 1.3spg, FGP: 46.2%, 3PT-1 (66.7%), FT: 91.7%.
He is quite experienced player. Hodge's career allowed him to visit four different continents, while he played in ten different countries. Hodge tasted the life as pro basketball player in Europe, Asia, Africa and of course North America. He has played previously professionally in France (ASVEL Lyon Villeurbanne Basket), Italy, Lebanon (Sagesse and Homentmen), Poland (Enea Zastal), Russia (Zenit), Saudi Arabia (Al Wehda), Spain (Baskonia), Tunisia (US Monastir), Egypt (Zamalek) and The Basketball Tournament (War Tampa). Hodge was voted to Latinbasket.com All-Puerto Rican BSN Honorable Mention back in 2011 and 2015.
He is close to retirement age as a player. It's very possible he may end his playing career at Al Ahly.
He graduated from University of Florida in 2009 and it will be his 14th (!!!) season as a professional player.
