Marineros de Puerto Plata (LNB) signed 32-year-old U.S. Virgin Islands 206cm power forward Rakeem Christmas (college: Syracuse). He is returning to Puerto Plata, where he has played before. Christmas most recently played for Bigua in the Uruguayan LUB league, averaging 8.3ppg, 5.0rpg, and 1.8bpg in 6 games last season.
In 2015, he was drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves (NBA) in the second round (36th overall). He graduated from Syracuse University and it will be his ninth season in pro basketball. He was a member of the U.S. Virgin Islands Senior National Team between 2021 and 2022.
He is a very experienced player, having played professionally in thirteen different countries on five continents thanks to pro basketball. He has experience in European, Asian, Latin American, Australian, and North American leagues, including Australia (New Zealand Breakers), China (Henan), Dominican Republic (Plaza, Dosa, Pueblo Nuevo), Mexico (Santos), Philippines (Hotshots), Puerto Rico (Capitanes, Cangrejeros, Mets), Taiwan (Yulon Luxgen), Turkey (Galatasaray, Ormanspor), Uruguay, Venezuela (Cocodrilos), NBA (Indiana Pacers), NBA G League (Indiana Mad Ants), and The Basketball Tournament (Boeheim's Army).
He played in the final of the Venezuelan SLB in 2022 and was voted to the D-League All-Star Game in 2016.
