The Tonga National Team are planning on not having Jermaine Barnes (193-G/F-83, college: Point, GA) for the 2019 Copa Mitchell Cup due to a hand injury. Barnes does not have a full broken hand injury, but there is a healing process for him to navigate. He dislocated his finger and suffered a hand fractured Saturday night in the UBA Classic. Barnes is currently listed as doubtful for Thursdays opening round; but has not ruled out the chance of playing.

"Jermaine is one of the toughest guys I ever coached", said Travis McAvene . This will be a big loss to our chances but we are remaining positive.

Barnes was named to the 2018 Latinbasket.com All-Mitchell Cup First Team. He averaged just under 16 points and 12 rebounds. He helped carry the GIE Maile Matrix to its 4th Mitchell Cup championship. The previous year he was named MVP after an amazing 29.8 point per game average.

He is currently playing for TSG Bergedorf of the German league.
