Metropolitan Round 13: Last-ranked Verdirrojo beat Miramar

The Regular Season in Metropolitan just ended. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Bottom-ranked Verdirrojo managed to get a third victory, breaking the series of four consecutive losses on Thursday night. This time they won against eleventh-ranked Miramar in Montevideo 81-69. Verdirrojo had a 36-24 advantage in offensive rebounds. Forward Christian Pereira (194-1993) fired a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Manuel Monteverde (194-1995) chipped in 11 points and 12 rebounds. American center Chris Ware (203-1989, college: Indiana Tech) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 21 rebounds for lost side. Verdirrojo (3-10) moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Miramar and San Telmo RS.
Leader Cordon delivered the eleventh victory. This time they crushed 12th ranked San Telmo RS (3-10) 96-68 in Montevideo. Worth to mention a great performance of Argentinian center Eduardo Vasirani (206-1991) who helped to win the game recording 17 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Lucas Capalbo contributed with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Gonzalo Meira (199-1988, agency: Pro Sports) answered with 33 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of his eight free throws) for San Telmo RS. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Cordon have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 11-2 record, which they share with Tabare. San Telmo RS at the other side dropped to the eleventh position with ten games lost. They share it with Miramar and Verdirrojo.
The game in Montevideo was also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Colon (10-3) played at the court of 7th ranked U.Atletica (7-6). Colon defeated U.Atletica 81-66 on Thursday. Gianfranco Espindola stepped up with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 12 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals for the winners. Colon's coach Ernesto Dorrego used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side Sebastian Ottonello responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds. Colon have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Capitol. U.Atletica lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth position with six games lost. They share it with 3 other teams.

Other games of round 13 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Stockolmo was defeated by Capitol in Montevideo 81-69. Lagomar was beaten by O.Mundial at home 61-77. Larranaga lost to Sayago on the opponent's court 65-80. Tabare managed to outperform 25 de Agosto in a home game 92-88.

Capitol - Stockolmo 81-69

There was no surprise in Montevideo where 13th ranked Stockolmo (2-11) was defeated by third ranked Capitol (10-3) 81-69 on Thursday. American Akia Pruitt (203-1997, college: UNCP) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and point guard Claudio Bascou (185-1989) chipped in 17 points. Four Capitol players scored in double figures. At the losing side forward Yari Acevedo (190-1997) responded with 21 points and guard Facundo Terra (185-1998) scored 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Stockolmo's coach Guido Fernandez rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Capitol have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain third place with 10-3 record behind leader Cordon, which they share with Colon. Stockolmo lost seventh consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom position with 11 games lost.

O.Mundial outrebounded Lagomar 46-28 including a 36-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when O.Mundial made 8 blocks. Cordon dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to San Telmo RS's 34. Cordon forced 25 San Telmo RS turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists.
