Liga Femenina Round 5 (Second Stage): Aguada lose to Malvin

Liga Femenina is at the halfway of the Second Stage and there are still another 5 rounds left. Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

There was a change at the Liga Femenina leadership position after last games. Round 5 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Aguada (4-1). They were defeated by second ranked Malvin (4-1) 63-59 on Saturday night. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Aguada. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Argentinian Maria Jourdheuil (180-1994) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and Argentinian forward Carla Miculka (174-1993) chipped in 15 points and 10 rebounds. Brazilian center Maria Ferreira (192-1994) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 19 rebounds. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Aguada and Yale. Aguada will play next round against strong D.Sporting trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Malvin will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Remeros in Mercedes.
Undefeated Lagomar (3-1) recorded its first loss in Las Piedras. Visitors were defeated by leader Juventud (4-0) 60-56. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Lagomar. Sabrina Molina (180-1998) nailed a double-double by scoring 14 points, 15 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for the winning side and Jessica Da Costa accounted for 17 points and 11 rebounds. Forward Carina Laborde (170-2004) came up with 16 points and 8 rebounds for Lagomar in the defeat. Juventud have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to seventh place. Lagomar at the other side dropped to the eighth position with one game lost. Juventud will play against Tabare (#10) at home in the next round. Lagomar will have a break next round.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Montevideo: Yale (#3) and D.Sporting (#4). D.Sporting was defeated at home 82-90 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. The best player for the winners was Agustina Bazan who scored 29 points and 6 rebounds. Julieta Ale produced a double-double by scoring 12 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 blocks for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Yale have a solid series of three victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Malvin and Aguada. Loser D.Sporting keeps the fourth place with three games lost. Yale's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Montevideo Urunday.

In the last game of round 5 Tabare lost to 25 de Agosto on the opponent's court 41-55.

Everything could happen in Montevideo at the game between two tied teams. Both ninth ranked 25 de Agosto and 10th ranked Tabare had identical 1-2 record. This time 25 de Agosto used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Tabare 55-41 on Saturday night. 25 de Agosto held Tabare to an opponent 24.2 percent shooting from the field compared to 39.0 percent accuracy of the winners. 25 de Agosto forced 23 Tabare turnovers and outrebounded them 43-29 including 32 on the defensive glass.
