Liga de Ascenso Round 10 (Regular Season): Atenas beat Lagomar in a derby game

The Regular Season in Liga de Ascenso just ended. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.
The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Montevideo: Atenas (#3) and Lagomar (#4). Atenas (7-2) won against visiting Lagomar (5-3) 92-80. Atenas looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Ukrainian Andriy Grytsak (201-2000) fired 26 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. point guard Luciano Planells (185-2001) chipped in 19 points and 6 rebounds. point guard Santiago Wohlwend (172-1997) produced 20 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Atenas keep a position of league leader, which they share with L.Borges and Verdirrojo. Lagomar at the other side dropped to the fifth place with three games lost. Another interesting game was again a derby between two teams from Montevideo: L.Borges (#1) and Stockolmo (#6). L.Borges (7-2) won against visiting Stockolmo (4-4) 85-74. Worth to mention a great performance of Sergio Conceicao who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points, 15 rebounds and 9 blocks. Manuel Oyenard contributed with 19 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks (made all of his nine free throws !!!) for the winners. point guard Emiliano Bonet (186-2001) replied with 13 points and 8 assists for Stockolmo. L.Borges have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 7-2 record, which they share with Atenas and Verdirrojo. Stockolmo lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with four games lost. The game with biggest result difference took place in Montevideo. Local Olimpia (4-5) outscored 7th ranked Marne (4-5) 101-71 on Thursday night. Anthony Hilliard had a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners. At the losing side Matias Nicoletti responded with 12 points and 5 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Olimpia have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Colon and Marne. Rest of the games of round 10 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are: bottom-ranked Capitol was defeated by Montevideo in a road game 81-71. Verdirrojo smashed Tabare at home 90-62. Larranaga won against Yale on the opponent's court 74-69. The best stats of 10th round was 19 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists by Bruno Curadossi of Yale.

L.Borges brought some defensive toughness making 14 blocks. Stockolmo was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of Sergio Conceicao who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points, 15 rebounds and 9 blocks. There was no surprise when 13th ranked Capitol (2-8) was defeated on the road by eleventh ranked Montevideo (3-5) 81-71 on Friday. Montevideo made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. They also forced 23 Capitol turnovers. Forward Agustin Da Costa (191-1998) scored 23 points to lead the charge for the winners and Maximiliano Antunez (193-2005) chipped in 13 points and 4 assists during the contest. At the losing side point guard Claudio Bascou (185-1989) responded with 19 points and 4 assists and Panamanian power forward Ezequiel Bell (202-1999) scored 15 points and 8 rebounds. Five Capitol players scored in double figures. Montevideo moved-up to tenth place. Loser Capitol stay at the bottom position with eight games lost. No shocking result in a game in Montevideo where third ranked Verdirrojo (7-2) smashed 10th ranked Tabare (3-7) 90-62 on Friday. Verdirrojo made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game, while Tabare only scored five points from the stripe. They outrebounded Tabare40-28 including a 33-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Verdirrojo looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Tabare's players. Forward Federico Haller (200-1988) had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and center Agustin Cabillon (198-1995) chipped in 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest (made all of his eight free throws). Four Verdirrojo players scored in double figures.
