Bigua adds Hassell to their roster

Franklin Hassell

Atletico Bigua Montevideo (LUB) added experienced 36-year-old American center Franklin Hassell (205cm-107kg-1988, college: ODU) to their roster for the new 2025-26 season. He played last season at Aguada. In 42 LUB games in Uruguay, he recorded impressive stats: 15.4ppg, 10.5rpg, and 1.0apg. He helped them reach the Uruguayan League final after finishing the regular season as the second-best team. He was named League Player of the Week (2 times), League Player of the Week (6 times), and voted to Latinbasket.com All-Uruguayan League Second Team. The previous (2024) summer, he played at Cocodrilos de Caracas (SPB) in the Venezuelan league.
Hassell has attempted to make it to the NBA and participated in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2013.
He is a very experienced player. His career allowed him to visit three different continents, while he played in twelve different countries. Hassell tasted the life as a pro basketball player in Europe, Latin America and of course North America. He has played professionally in Argentina (Comunicaciones), France (Cholet Basket, Le Portel and Boulazac Basket), Israel (Hapoel Holon, Bnei Hassellrtzeliya and Elitzur Yavne), Italy (Openjobmetis Varese), Latvia (VEF Riga), Mexico (Mineros), Poland (Zastal), Turkey (Sakarya Buyuksehir Basketbol), Venezuela, NBA G League (Cleveland Charge) and The Basketball Tournament (Monarch Nation).
Among many awards, he won the Uruguay League championship title in 2023. He was also selected as the Latinbasket.com All-Basketball Champions League Americas Player of the Year and was voted to the Latinbasket.com All-Basketball Champions League Americas Honorable Mention in 2024. Hassell is close to retirement age as a player. It's very possible he may end his playing career at Bigua.
He graduated from Old Dominion University in 2011 and it'll be his 15th (!!!) season as a pro player.
