Third-ranked Nacional (19-10) gave a tough game to first ranked Penarol (24-6) in Montevideo on Wednesday. The visitors managed to secure only two-point victory 84-82. However their fans expected easier game. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Nacional. 24 personal fouls committed by Nacional helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Naturalized Italian swingman Nicola Pomoli (195-1999) scored 12 points and 9 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Santiago Vescovi (191-2001, college: Tennessee) chipped in 14 points during the contest. Penarol's coach Leandro Morales used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side American-Dominican center James Feldeine (193-1988, college: Quinnipiac) responded with 37 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds. Penarol maintains first position with 24-6 record. Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Montevideo: Penarol (#1) and Aguada (#2). Penarol (24-6) won against visiting Aguada (20-9) 103-95. Guard Santiago Vescovi (191-2001, college: Tennessee) notched 21 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists to lead the effort and Norris Cole supported him with 14 points and 7 assists. Even a double-double of 29 points and 10 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws) by Dominican center Luis Santos (203-1994, college: St.Louis) did not help to save the game for Aguada. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Penarol maintains first position with 24-6 record. Aguada at the other side keeps the second place with nine games lost.
