LFB Round 7 (Regular Season): D.Sporting beat Urunday in a derby game

Coincidentally all visitors won their games. Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Montevideo: D.Sporting (#1) and Urunday (#7). Urunday was defeated at home 60-74 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. D.Sporting dominated down low during the game scoring 40 of its points in the paint compared to Urunday's 20. D.Sporting forced 25 Urunday turnovers. Argentinian Camila Suarez (178-2000) fired 23 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Sofia Herrera (179-2005) chipped in 10 points and 8 rebounds. Argentinian guard Melina Marcial (168-1998) produced 18 points and 7 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Undefeated D.Sporting (6-0) have an impressive series of six victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with a perfect record of 6 victories in a row. Urunday lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with five games lost.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Tabare. Third ranked Malvin faced 4th placed Tabare. Guests from Montevideo (5-1) smashed host Tabare (3-3) 72-49. Worth to mention a great performance of center Selena Medrick (177-2002) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points and 16 rebounds (perfect from the field making all six shots). Paula Fernandez contributed with 14 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Argentinian point guard Abril Ramirez (167-2000, agency: BIG) answered with 16 points for Tabare. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Malvin. They moved-up to second place. Tabare at the other side keeps the fourth position with three games lost. They share it with Yale and Lagomar.

25 de Agosto - Lagomar 44-70

Bottom-ranked 25 de Agosto (0-6) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 70-44 loss to sixth ranked Lagomar (3-3) in Montevideo on Wednesday evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to 25 de Agosto's 26. Lagomar forced 28 25 de Agosto turnovers and outrebounded them 42-31 including 30 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Lagomar made 7 blocks. It was a great evening for point guard Catalina Tano (174-2003) who led her team to a victory scoring 25 points and 6 rebounds. Center Agostina Nogueira (-2004) helped adding 10 points and 14 rebounds. Four Lagomar players scored in double figures. At the losing side forward Ileana Duarte (-2005) responded with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 12 rebounds and guard Ana Font (-2006) scored 12 points and 6 rebounds. Lagomar moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Yale and Tabare. 25 de Agosto lost their sixth game in a row. They still close the standings with six games lost.

Yale - Aguada 63-93

There was no surprise in Montevideo where 5th ranked Yale (3-3) was crushed by third ranked Aguada (5-2) 93-63 on Wednesday. Aguada forced 22 Yale turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Yale's players. It was a great evening for Fiorella Bertinat (179-2010) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 13 rebounds. Argentinian forward Luzmila Varzi (171-2005) helped adding 18 points and 9 rebounds. Four Aguada players scored in double figures. Aguada's coach Gino Alderete felt very confident using entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side guard Luana Lizzazoain (170-2008) responded with 23 points and 5 rebounds and forward Martina Marino (170-2005) scored 13 points. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Aguada. They maintain third place with 5-2 record behind leader D.Sporting. Loser Yale dropped to the fourth position with three games lost. They share it with Lagomar and Tabare.
