LFB Round 8 (Regular Season): Derby game ends with Malvin's defeat of Yale

Coincidentally all hosts won their games. Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Montevideo: Malvin (#3) and Yale (#6). Malvin (6-1) won against visiting Yale (3-4) 64-58. Malvin dominated down low during the game scoring 32 of its points in the paint compared to Yale's 12. They outrebounded Yale 50-32 including a 19-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Point guard Aldana Gayoso (168-2000) orchestrated the victory by scoring 17 points and 5 rebounds. Paula Fernandez (178-2005) contributed with 8 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Malvin's coach Diego Rivas used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Luana Lizzazoain (170-2008) replied with 17 points for Yale. Malvin have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Yale at the other side dropped to the fifth position with four games lost. They share it with Tabare.
Liga Femenina top team - D.Sporting (7-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed ninth ranked 25 de Agosto (0-7) in Montevideo 80-45. Worth to mention a quality performance of forward Lara Barbato (181-2004) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds and Valentina Matos who added 10 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Forward Ileana Duarte (-2005) responded with 20 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Undefeated D.Sporting have an impressive seven-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 7-0 record. 25 de Agosto at the other side still closes the standings with seven games lost.
The game in Montevideo was also quite interesting. One of their biggest challengers Tabare (3-4) played at the court of fifth ranked Lagomar (4-3). Lagomar defeated Tabare 56-44 on Wednesday. The winners were led by Rocio Sagardoy who had that evening a double-double by scoring 11 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Even 9 points and 10 rebounds by Krystal Cordara did not help to save the game for Tabare. Tabare's coach Facundo De Mello rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Lagomar have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place. Tabare lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth position with four games lost. They share it with Yale.

In the last game of round 8 Cordon was beaten by Aguada on the road 82-71.

Aguada - Cordon 82-71

No shocking result in a game when third ranked Aguada (6-2) beat at home 8th ranked Cordon (1-6) 82-71 on Tuesday. Aguada made 21-of-24 free shots (87.5 percent) during the game. They also forced 30 Cordon turnovers. The winners were led by guard Joaquina Gregorio (168-2001, agency: BIG) who scored that evening 26 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 8 steals (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and Argentinian forward Luzmila Varzi (171-2005) supported her with 24 points and 8 rebounds. Four Aguada players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 24 points and 14 rebounds by Argentinian center Martina Schunk (181-2005) did not help to save the game for Cordon. Argentinian point guard Virginia Peralta (172-2006, agency: BIG) added 16 points for the guests. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Aguada have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 6-2 record behind leader D.Sporting. Cordon lost third consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with six games lost.

Liga Femenina top team - D.Sporting (7-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed ninth ranked 25 de Agosto (0-7) in Montevideo 80-45. D.Sporting dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to 25 de Agosto's 24. D.Sporting forced 29 25 de Agosto turnovers and outrebounded them 55-28 including a 34-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. D.Sporting players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by 25 de Agosto's players.
