Marinos defend LPB title, Sucre is MVP of the Finals - Jun 7, 2012
Sixth game of the LPB Finals was played last night. Marinos celebrated 93-80 home victory against Trotamundos closing the series with 4-2. It means that Marinos defended the LPB title from the last season. They were LPB champions also in 1991, 1993, 1998, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2009. Leon Rodgers (199-F-80, college: N.Illinois) stepped up for Marinos in Game Six with 28 points. Axiers Sucre (198-F-78) secured a great help adding 18 pts to this victory. Sucre was named MVP of the Finals. Marinos took control on their rival from the very beginning. They started with 12-2 run and later jumped to 24-8 lead. With something more than a minute to go in the first quarter Shaun Pruitt (208-C-85, agency: Edge Sports, college: Illinois) and Miguel Marriaga (208-C-84) had an episode of boxing on the court. Both of them were expelled by the referees and soon after that David Cubillan (183-PG-87, college: Marquette) was also sent to the showers. Marinos finished first quarter with 29-12 and they reached plus 31 after the breather, 61-30. Trotamundos came to minus 9 (85-76) with 3 minutes remaining in the game, but it was all from them last night.
2012 LPB All-Star Game was held on Monday, April 16. Foreigners celebrated 137-131 win against the Venezuelan stars. Darius Adams (182-G-89, college: Indianapolis) was the leading player in victory with 29 points and 5 rebounds. Robert Glenn (201-F/C-89, college: IUPUI) followed him with 26 points and Delonte Holland (201-F-82, college: De Paul) added 3 less. In the loosing squad Michael Flores (192-G-85) delivered 26 points. Francisco Centeno (201-G/F-85) (6 rebs) and Hernan Salcedo (198-F-80) scored 22 points each. It was a real spectacle and fans could enjoy watching the best LPB players in one place. Foreigners took control on Venezuelans after the breather and managed to keep their lead for rest of the way. Quarters: 31-33, 36-34, 35-41, 29-29. Most of these players are already focused to their LPB Second Stage games.
